[Game Thread] Wings vs. Senators

Tonight, the Detroit Red Wings (0-1-0) head to Scotiabank Place to face off against the Ottawa Senators (1-0-1) for their first road game of the regular season. After a 3-2 loss against Toronto on Thursday, the team hopes to bounce back and keep the turnovers to a minimum after giving the puck away 19 times to the Maple Leafs.

The Senators will be without captain forward Daniel Alfredsson, who had to have arthroscopic knee surgery to remove a bone chip on Friday. He's expected to miss two weeks.

Ottawa opened their season in Stockholm, Sweden with a 4-3 OT loss to Pittsburgh and a 3-1 win over the Penguins a day later. This will be their season opener at home.

The game starts at 7pm and will be on FSN Detroit (HD) and CBC. I will be around leaving comments during the game so be sure to stop by!

Quincey on waivers.

Ken Daniels and Mickey Redmond just informed us that Kyle Quincey was placed on waivers today. Mickey said that it’s a complex reason, but basically they couldn’t call up a goalie if someone got injured so they had to place him on waivers. We’ll find out if he gets picked up by Monday at noon. They believe he will be picked up on waivers.

Wings goal!

Beautiful wrist shot by Valtteri Filppula from the top of the face off circle to the right of Ottawa goaltender Martin Gerber. Mikael Samuelsson and Dan Cleary were given the assists.

The game is now tied 1-1. Earlier in the first, Alexander Picard scored a 5-on-3 PPG with assists by Filip Kuba and Dany Heatley, who is wearing the “C” tonight while Daniel Alfredsson is out with a knee injury. Dan Cleary (tripping) and Andreas Lilja (high-sticking) were in the box when the Sens scored.

Tonight is Lilja’s 400th game and Brett Lebda’s 200th game in their careers.
