[Game Thread] Wings vs. Canucks

Tonight, the Wings (7-2-2) play their final game of a five game road trip against the Vancouver Canucks (6-5-0). Detroit hopes to end a two-game losing skid (losses came against Anaheim and San Jose) and finish on a strong note. If Detroit does lose, it will be their first three-game losing streak since they lost four in a row (Feb. 22-29).

It marks the Wings first road game against the Canucks of the season, but the second contest between the two squads this year. Last time, the Vancouver beat Detroit 4-3 in overtime at Joe Louis Arena on October 16th.

Chris Osgood will likely be in net. Johan Franzen will not play due to a MCL sprain.

The game starts at 10pm and will be shown on FSN Detroit. Please stop by and keep me company during the game in the comment section!

Lebda out.

Yesterday, I posted about how the Wings were struggling on defense, particularly Brett Lebda who had a team-worst -9 rating. As a result, head coach Mike Babcock pulled Lebda and put in Derek Meech for tonight’s game.

Mike Brown vs. Darren McCarty

After McCarty barely ran into Roberto Lungo well outside the crease, Mike Brown and Darren McCarty went at it. I’d give the fight win to McCarty. Both received fighting majors.

Before this road trip, Detroit had no fighting majors. Now, the Wings have two in three games both of which were courtesy of McCarty.

Sammuelsson scores!

Henrik Zetterberg does a smooth backhand pass to Mikael Samuelsson who one-times it from the face off dot. It marks his second goal of the season.

Jiri Hudler also earned an assist.

Rafalski scores!

The Wings notch their second power-play goal of the night with a rip from Brian Rafalski on the point. Both Tomas Holmstrom and Marian Hossa screened Luongo making it hard for him to see Rafalski’s shot.

The puck was deflected, but they don’t know yet if the deflection went of Hossa or a Canuck.

Sedin Twins...

The Sedin Twins work their magic after Henrik wins the face off. Daniel Sedin scoops up the puck behind the net, passes it to Henrik who pushes it in past Osgood.

The Twins have seven points in the last six games.

Zetterberg gets another!

Wings regain their two-goal lead with a Hank goal on a 5-on-3 power play. He was on the goal line, looked like he was going to pass, and then took a backhanded shot sending the puck over Luongo.

All three Wings goals have been on the power play tonight.

Canucks score..

Kyle Wellwood gets a rebound off the boards, moves the puck from backhand to forehand, and easily pops it into the net. It came just after Derek Meech’s penalty had expired.

Oh well.

It was a late game on a Sunday night, but at least we won!

I know!

It’d be nice to get a two- or three-goal lead to lessen the suspense at the end. I was just thankful that it didn’t head into OT!

Woohoo

Wings just won me 30 cents.

Awesome

CentSports.com

Are you doing that CentSports.com thing?

Haha yeah!

I’ve been doing it since they started the site. It’s kind of lame if you’re just doing it alone, but I’ve got my roommate and everyone at my office into it, and now just hitting that $3 mark makes you king of the town.
