[Game Thread] Wings vs. Canucks
Please stop by and leave a comment during tonight's game featuring the Detroit Red Wings (13-3-2) and the Vancouver Canucks (13-6-2). We'd love to hear from you!
Wings forward Tomas Holmstrom is still out with back spasms for at least two more weeks. Derek Meech will take the extra roster spot and Tomas Kopecky will continue to play on the top line.
Holmstrom was to have seen a back specialist today, but general manager Ken Holland said the bad weather in Detroit delayed the appointment until Tuesday.
After missing Thursday's game against Edmonton, defenseman Niklas Kronwall played Saturday night against Calgary. Unfortunately, his ankle remains sore and he will be out of the lineup tonight.
Valtteri Filppula may miss tonight's game with the flu. He wasn't feeling well today and didn't skate with the team, but is hoping he can rest today and be able to play tonight. If not, the Wings will be short one player.
In each of the last nine games, Vancouver has gotten at least a point as they went 7-0-2 in the span. During eight of those nine games, Roberto Luongo went 5-0-2 with a sparkling 0.97 GAA. Unfortunately for Canucks fans, Luongo suffered a groin injury and will be out for awhile.
“What Luongo does is he gives his team a chance. But it gives you a focal point, and you know you’re going to have to really bear down,” Wings coach Mike Babcock said. “If you take that away, are we going to win easy? We haven’t won easy all year long.”
The game will be on FSN Detroit at 10pm. Go Wings!

Looked like Datysuk had the game winner
with 3:35 left a nice shot to give the wings a 2-1 lead but 1 minute later typical red wings let up another late lead….might be heading for OT

Bummer.
Wings lose 3-2 in OT.
However, Detroit got five of the six possible points on the trip and considering the Western Canada road trip usually gives us some trouble, I’ll take it.
The Wings play next on Wednesday evening at home.
