[Game Thread] Wings vs. Sharks

Former Detroit Red Wings assistant coach Todd McLellan returns to Detroit for the first time after accepting the head coaching position at San Jose Sharks. While I don't harbor any resentment for Todd leaving us, I don't like that he has turned the previously good Sharks into the team with the most wins in the first 30 games ever. (25-3-2) Previously, the Sharks beat us in San Jose not even 24 hours after our game against Anaheim resulted in an overtime loss so tonight's contest is really the first chance for us to guage how we're doing in comparison to the top-ranked team in the Western Conference.

Ty Conklin will get the start in net for the Wings (20-6-4) after Chris Osgood suffered a groin strain and missed Wednesday's practice. Because the Wings are right up against the salary cap, the Wings are hoping Ozzie can be back-up for Conklin. Otherwise, the team will have to place Ozzie on long-term injured reserve or trade a player in order to make room under the cap.

The game starts at 7:30pm and will be shown on FS Detroit. You can check out the view from the opponent at Fear the Fin (a fellow SBN blog). Go Wings!

Well, to be fair...

If the last meeting was not a true guage (due to the back-to-back games for Detroit), then how can tonight’s meeting be the first true guage, since the Sharks are also playing the second of back-to-back games (including a similar O.T. loss)?

Not looking for excuses – just trying to keep it objective.

Objective, that is, except to say – GO SHARKS. ;-)

Haha true.

It is true that it’s not like both teams had a couple days off. But from a Wings perspective, it was a chance for us to see how a rested team would do against the Sharks. You are certainly right that it’s not equal for both team’s tonight.

BUT the Wings lost 4-2 in San Jose and you guys lost 6-0 tonight soo I’m liking where we stand. :)

Go Wings!

Huge game tonight….we need to prove to everybody that we are still the team to beat out west. Even though we did play San Jose the 1st time coming over back to back games i think the Sharks just beat us down anyway even if we hadn’t played the night before. So tonight it is payback time…whoever says this is just another game is insanee idc about records…of course both of these teams don’t NEED to win, that’s obvious….but this game is for respect, supremacy etc etc….

Go Wings put em downn

Definitely.

It was a great boost to see the team play this well against such a strong opponent. I really felt that we needed this win to prove where we stood in this league so I’m pleased!

Great game by the wings so far.

Conklin looks pretty solid. Ozzy getting hurt might be a blessing.

Sorry!

Thank you for leaving your comments! I actually intern with the team so I can’t be on the thread during home games but I try to respond to them as soon as I get back home. We appreciated your thoughts from during the game and Go Wings!
