[Game Thread] Wings vs. Kings

After a dominating 6-0 win over the San Jose Sharks, the Detroit Red Wings (21-6-4) take on the LA Kings (13-13-6) tonight at the Joe.

We'll get a chance to see former Wing defenseman Kyle Quincey and University of Michigan alum Jack Johnson on the blue line.

Ty Conklin should get the start in goal again as Chris Osgood is still bugged by a sore groin. He didn't even skate this morning because he came down with the flu. Goalie coach Jim Bedard had to man the other net in place of Ozzie. Chris Chelios and Derek Meech are healthy scratches tonight.

The game starts at 7pm and will be shown on FS Detroit. I will be at the game. I did just get an iPhone today so I'm going to try and see if I can update with comments, but there is no guarantee that my service will be strong/fast enough to do so. Go Wings!

clear some cap space

Hey Kenny, here’s an idea: clear some cap space now by dealing Samuelsson asap. You know you’re not going to resign him after this season, what with Zetterberg and Franzen gobbling up most of the available $$$. Short term that’ll let you also deal with the backup goaltender problem.

Osgood ... Injury ....Salary Cap

Is there any word how long Ozzy will be out? Is it a possiblity to place him on the LTI? That would help our salary cap:

  1. A player expected to miss at least 10 games and 24 days due to injury can be listed as a long-term injury (LTI).
  2. An LTI can be covered by replacement players, as long as the replacement salaries do not exceed the salary of the injured player.

Yeah it could help...

But he’s feeling well enough to play back-up so I don’t think they’re ready to send him down yet…

Mickey Redmond is angry

Not a fan of the refs and the ticky-tack hooks early. I don’t think he’s going to be having dinner with the zebras anytime soon.

Horrible turnover by the Kings

They lucked out that Quick made a great save.
