[Game Thread] Wings vs. Predators

The Detroit Red Wings (23-6-4) take on the Nashville Predators (16-14-3) for the first time this season, which is surprising considering the two teams will play six games against one another this season. The last time these two teams played last year ended in a 4-2 series win over the Predators in the first round of the postseason. Tonight's game is the first of two on the road for the Wings.

Goaltender Ty Conklin should get the start in goal as it sounds like Chris Osgood's groin is still bothering him, but not enough to start in net. Conklin has won the last three straight for Detroit and earned a 1.67 GAA during that period.

Please stop by and leave a comment or two during the game. I know I will be around!

The game starts at 8pm and will be shown on FS Detroit. Go Wings!

Uh oh.

Nicklas Lidstrom is not out on the ice or on the bench.

Paul Boyer is on the bench so that makes you think it’s not an equipment problem, but Piet Van Zant (trainer) is also on the bench so you wouldn’t think that’d be the case if it was an injury.

I’ll be sure to update the thread with any news on No. 5. Hopefully it’s nothing serious…

aye

hopefully he’s ok

Oh no.

Lidstrom will not return tonight with a lower body injury.

Thanks to a new league rule that GM Ken Holland was a big proponent of, the Wings do not have to specify what the injury is.

They showed his last shift before leaving the ice and I have a hard time believing something serious happened from what I saw, but you never know.

According to Ansar Khan @ MLive.com:

“Wings captain Nicklas Lidstrom left early in the second period of Friday’s game in Nashville with an undisclosed lower-body injury and will not return to the game. General manager Ken Holland said Lidstrom went for X-rays, which were negative. He would not reveal the nature of the injury. Lidstrom will be re-evaluated Saturday. He played one shift in the second period before leaving.”

Preds go ahead w/ 6 seconds left in Lebda penalty.

Kevin Klein tees off from the high slot for his third goal of the season.

With 1:08 to go in the second,

Preds score to get a 3-1 lead courtesy of a Fiddler goal.

Crap!

Preds are 13-3-1 when scoring first.

The Preds scored the first goal of tonight’s game. Bummer.

Yep.

If any team can come back after being down two goals to start the third, the Wings are that team.

Samuelsson scores on a one-timer!!!

Andreas Lilja made a great saucer pass to Sammy, who is just outside the bottom of the left faceoff circle.

Three Swedes contributed: Zetterberg —> Lilja —> Samuelsson

Lilja has been playing with a lot more confidence this season – it’s great to see.
