[Game Thread] Wings vs. Canucks

The Detroit Red Wings (16-4-4) continue their home stand tonight with their third game this season against the Vancouver Canucks (14-9-2). The last time these two teams played (Nov. 24), Vancouver beat Detroit 3-2 in overtime. Both of the two games between these teams this season have gone into overtime with Vancouver coming away with the wins.

Tomas Holmstrom is a maybe for tonight's game according to Bruce MacLeod. Ty Conklin will probably be in net if head coach Mike Babcock continues to alternate the two goaltenders.

Vancouver is still without the services of star goaltender Roberto Luongo and one of their back-ups (Sanford) may also be out with back spasms leaving the Canucks with Cory Schneider to likely tend the net tonight.

I will be at the game, but please feel free to leave your thoughts on the action and I'll be sure to respond to it by the time I get back home. The game starts at 7:30pm and will be shown on FSN Detroit. Go Wings!

Yeah...

That’s not how I want to see the Wings start their games. Man.

Confidence.

When a Red Wing gets some confidence, he’s golden.

Blown lead ...

…. again. What is up with the Wings’ D this year? It’s woeful compared to last year. Wing don’t seem near as dominant as they did last year either. At least they’re not playing that way much this year. Hope they figure out how soon.

Yeah.

I wonder if it has to do with the change in assistant coaches since Todd McClellan, who is now coaching the top-ranked Western Conference team (Sharks), handled a lot of the defense…

Yeah, I wonder that too. Hopefully it’s not though. I’d like to say it’s lack of focus. It’s probably easier fixing a focus problem as opposed to changing a coach mid-season.

by auxlepli on Dec 5, 2008 6:52 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Oh definitely.

Plus, the new assistant coach had to jump right in and work with a team that really didn’t change (on the defensive end) and adjust to how they play and what works/doesn’t work for this team. While we have the luxury of having great offense to help carry our team, let’s just hope they get this all sorted out at least a month before the playoffs.

Kudos

Kudos to the Wings for coming out strong for the third and ultimately the win. Still, their three-goal lead evaporated. The Wings defense is still MIA.

Nice to see them hang on.

Just wish we didn’t have to worry when we got a 3 goal lead!
