GDT: Wings vs. Stars [Game #5]

A combination of starting the game off flat, a disallowed Tomas Holmstrom goal, and Dallas actually showed up, resulted in the Wings first loss in ten games. They return to home with a chance to finish off the Stars at Joe Louis Arena.

Johan Franzen is still out with concussion-like symptoms. At this point, there is no potential date for his return and he has only recently started off-ice conditioning.

The game starts at 1:30pm and will be shown on NBC. NBC is also broadcasting the Preakness horse race at 4:30pm so if they game goes longer than three hours, be sure to flip to Versus to catch the rest of the game. Those of us living in the Detroit or Dallas area will be able to continue watching the game on NBC. Go Wings!

What about us without TV?

mlb.com and nfl.com have great "live box score" pages, but I have yet to check out nhl.com.

However, I will say it is rather evil to leave a hockey game in the waning seconds to show horse racing (I hope this didn't happen.  Especially for those watching on broadcast TV and not having the luxury of 100 channels, one of which might be Versus (but that might be in the 150 channel package).  I miss TV for the sports, but that's about it.

Didn't happen this time...

Fortunately for the NHL and NBC, the game ended in regulation so there was no conflict. Last year, they only left 2.5 hours for the game and had to cut away to the horse race when the hockey game went into OT. But that is what happens when hockey is relegated to a second tier sport.

NHL.com does update their scores page live so you can have play by play updates as they happen or just view the updated game summary w/ the goals, penalties, etc.
