GDT: Wings vs. Penguins [Game #4]

Tonight at 8pm, the Detroit Red Wings take on the Pittsburgh Penguins on the road.

The only potential line-up change for the Wings is if Tomas Holmstrom does not play due to an apparent hamstring injury. He is a game time decision. If Homer can't go (and I think he'll play), Darren McCarty will fill out the roster.

The game will be shown on NBC and CBC. Go Wings!

Feel free to leave a comment in the thread below with any game-related comments. I will be stopping by throughout the game.

Homer is OUT tonight.

Tomas Holmstrom will NOT play tonight. Dan Cleary will fill his spot on the top line. Holmstrom will not play because the Wings don’t want to risk a tender hamstring in a non-elimination game. That is not good news whatsoever and very disappointing. Homer’s absence will make Marc-Andre Fleury’s job a lot easier tonight and that is not what the Wings want tonight.

So far, so good.

Cleary seems to be doing his best Homer imitation. He screen MAF on the Lidstrom goal.

Ya that was good

I can’t stand this. I hope I don’t have a heart attack at just sixteen years of age!

Up and down game.

With all the penalties, I feel like one team starts to control the puck and then one of their players heads to the box and disrupts that flow.

Hi Christy and Adam...

Promised to stop by tonight for Game 4, but I had to forfeit anytime PC time with nasty thunderstorms moving through New York during the first period and saw the high majority of the action through 40 minutes…

An important goal for Marian Hossa got the Penguins going, no doubt about that. I saw fire in him tonight I had not seen much if any during his tenure in Atlanta, maybe even Ottawa.

But the Red Wings for how good they are showed it in bouncing back fairly quickly. But credit goes to both goalies for their exceptional play since then. What a defensive struggle, but a good one. So much physical play.

Ozzie’s going to have to continue to stay strong now because you know that the Penguins are going to step up their attack. Either way, this should be a solid, yet pivotal third period.

And by the way, I’d rather take a peek at “The Rookie” starring Dennis Quaid during the intermission than hear Pierre McGuire and Mike Milbury talk nonsense.

Hossa = A beast.

Hossa has had an amazing game tonight. That’s for sure. Every touch seems to be a dangerous one.

The ice isn’t looking very great and the puck is bouncing all over so we may see an ugly goal decide the outcome of this game.

Thanks for stopping by!

Big, big goal...

Scoring off a turnover is the worst thing a team can do defensively, but Hudler’s goal was HUGE. Let’s see what happens from here. :)

Oooooo, Fleury is called for a delay of game penalty. Should be a big power play for Detroit.

Huds!

The Huds goal was key!

Bummed that the Wings were unable to extend their lead on the MAF penalty, but at least that was two less minutes for the Pens to have a decent shot of scoring.

Let’s hope they can keep the Pens off the board for the next 13 minutes.

pivotal penalty kill of the series?

That could’ve been the turning of the entire series, that Detroit penalty kill right there. If this was the first three rounds when on a 5-on-3, Pittsburgh might’ve scored on it. Bad time for Lilja to commit his first penalty of the series, but he was bailed out.

And yes, what an amazing defensive play by Henrik Zetterberg intercepting that pass and maintaining puck possession, a shot on goal, a retrieval of the puck in the Penguins zone AND killing time off the penalty clock.

Key PK.

That was an impressive penalty kill for sure.

Zetterberg had the biggest save of the game!

Huge win!!!

The Wings win a huge game on the road. It was the Penguins first loss in 18 games (I think). It also marks their first loss in the postseason when the Pens scored first.

Go Wings!

I can breathe!!!!

Thank the Lord for the defensive play of Zetterberg and Datsyuk. It doesn’t even matter if Datsyuk is pointless this series because he is one of the few stars that can contribute without making an impact on the scoresheet!

great effort, possibly Cup on Monday?

I think those that have given Crosby and Malkin too much attention and not enough to Datsyuk and Zetterberg better do so now… this game was a perfect example.

What a defensive effort tonight by Detroit. If there is one team that could end Pittsburgh’s home winning streak at the absolute biggest time, tonight was it. It was the Penguins’ first home loss in 18 games and first this postseason when scoring first (11-1).

Should a festive Game 6 at the Joe. Catch up with ya on Monday. :)

oops, I meant Game 5.

Sorry about that, I goofed. it’s Game 5 instead of 6… I did predict the series to go that far, but we’ll see how things go before then.

Amazing!

What a relief! The series isn’t over at 3-1, but the Joe should be rocking with the chance to clinch the Cup on Monday night.

I move to Chicago tomorrow morning to start the first day of my internship there on Monday, but I’ll be leaving to drive back to the Joe for Game #5. As such, there will be a GDT but I will not be stopping by. Go Wings!
