GDT: Wings vs. Penguins [Game #5]

Tonight, the Detroit Red Wings have their first shot at winning the Stanley Cup since 2002. Will they be able to pull off a 4-1 series victory over the Penguins at Joe Louis Arena? Or will the Penguins send the series back to Pittsburgh for a Game #6?

The only question mark for Detroit regarding their line-up for Game #5 is that of Tomas Holmstrom. He told head coach Mike Babcock earlier today that he would play, but that was the impression we had for Game #4 which he was unable to play in. Thus, it sounds like it will be another game-time decision.

Detroit fans with tickets to the game are excited at the prospect of seeing the Cup win at home. Let's hope they aren't disappointed.

I will be at the Joe for Game #5 and will be unable to check on this thread during the game, but please feel free to leave comments amongst yourselves about the game.

The game begins at 8pm and will be shown on NBC and CBC. Go Wings!

Hossa does it again...

First Penguins goal at the Joe… first road lead of the series for them. It should be interesting to see how both teams handle this scenario.

now we see how the Red Wings REALLY respond...

Another goal… now 2-0 Pittsburgh… unfamiliar territory since the Game 5 home loss to Dallas.

Do they lose all momentum, or they regain the edge to rally from this early hole? Time will obviously tell.

2-1 nearing end of 2nd

should be an intense third period...

One team is desperate to keep their dream alive while the other wants to end the series here and now. Detroit is going to need more goals like the one they scored tonight to increase their chances of winning Game 5. Marc-Andre Fleury is not going to be beaten easily in this tilt, that’s for sure.

hopefully this third overtime ends quickly…

the last home team to clinch a Cup victory with an overtime goal was I believe Bobby Nystrom for the 1980 Islanders

What a hard game to watch....

i don’t even know what to say… what a blown opportunity. We outplayed this team, but they certainly out-goalied us. Fleury was ridiculus. What an opportunity! triple overtime, at home, could’ve won it… oh well… off to smog-town. P.S. SCREW COCKY PLAYERS THAT CALL GOALS (bah!)

Damn Christy, sorry you had to witness that :\

That was rough...

It was worth the $200 in parking, gas, and a train ticket back to Chicago to view the game. I mean we were 34.7 seconds away from celebrating and the Joe was just so pumped. But then it happened.

To say I’m disappointed would be an extreme understatement, but fortunately the series is not over. We have to win just one more game. Pittsburgh has to win twice. I believe we have the better team and I have a hard time seeing Pittsburgh being able to win three straight games over the Wings (and two of those at the Joe).
