[Game Thread] Wings @ Coyotes

Detroit Red Wings at Phoenix Coyotes, Oct 22, 2009 9:00 PM CDT

Photo

Carlos Osorio - AP

The Red Wings kick off their five-game, 11-day road trip tonight in Phoenix against the Coyotes, who are off to a surprisingly hot 5-2-0 start. On the other hand, Detroit is having a rough go initially with a 3-3-1 record. A win tonight would extend the Coyotes to a four-game winning streak, while a win would snap a one-game losing skid for Detroit.

Star forward Pavel Datsyuk hopes to play tonight, but the decision has yet to be made definitively.

The Wings have struggled with maintaining a lead this season, allowing 3+ goals in a single period four times already this year. Not only will the offense have to play big against the stingy Phoenix defense, but the Wings' defense needs to be on guard as they hope to get off to a good start on this tough western road trip.

The puck is slated to drop at 10 p.m. EDT and will be televised on FSDetroit. Go Wings!

I did the opposite

And DIDN’T wear Red Wings gear. They’ve lost each time I’ve tried that this season.

beyond ready for this

Need some hockey to get the weekend started right.

Pretty sweet entrance

Love the views of the area. Completely different from what we normally see for the rest of NHL teams.

Bertuzzi making his case...

for Petrella’s Mikael Samuelsson award.

But I’d rather him fire on net i guess.

Lol, might have to change the profile pic

I’m thinking about purchasing center ice. I will probably get it within the next week or so, hopefully it pans out.

Although my stream might be a few minutes behind. But I’ll say something.

by Brobz on Oct 22, 2009 9:56 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

my opinions so far

I’m rather concerned about Lebda and Ericcson together. I’ve only seen them on the ice with Zetterberg and Datsyuk, so maybe my worry is unfounded.

Is it just me or does Leino seem especially weak with the puck this game so far?

by bleep bloop on Oct 22, 2009 10:00 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Agreed

Leino has always looked weak on the puck compared to other NHLers, to me. I feel like he needed to get stronger, and I think he HAS because last year it was really noticeable.

I haven’t caught full games. I saw bits and pieces last night, but my buddy (who is a big time Nucks fan) is THRILLED with Samuelsson and says he’s been “counting” how many times he’s missed the net (because I made a big deal of it in July). He says twice.

TWICE!

Gimme a break. He’s missed the net more than that TONIGHT, on an off-night.

Of the “8 or 9” defensemen taken before Nick Lidstrom in 1989, JAMIE HEWARD is the one you’d know?
