[Game Thread] Wings @ Canucks
Detroit Red Wings at Vancouver Canucks, Oct 27, 2009 9:00 PM CDT
The Detroit Red Wings look to end their three-game losing skid tonight in Vancouver as they face off against the Canucks and former teammate Mikael Samuelsson. Sammy currently leads his new team in goals (5) and is second in points (10).
Head coach Mike Babcock broke up the line featuring Williams and the two Finns during Monday's practice, but he has not ruled out keeping the previous game lineup for today's contest. According to MLive.com, here were the lines the team was practicing with on Monday.
Datsyuk-Zetterberg-Holmstrom
Cleary-Filppula-Bertuzzi (Eaves working in)
Leino-Draper-Williams
May-Helm-Maltby (Abdelkader working in)
The defense remained the same:
Lidstrom-Kronwall
Stuart-Rafalski
Ericsson-Lebda (Meech working in)
Osgood (starting)
Howard
The Detroit News reported this afternoon that Darren Helm will be a healthy scratch. Babcock says that it's not like Helmer has been playing bad, but he did miss most of training camp and the entire preseason. He hopes that scratching him will be just the motivation Helm needs to bounce back to his old self.
The game will start at 10 p.m. EDT and will be shown on FSDetroit. Go Wings!
Shockingly, the Wings have only won three of nine games so far this season. A win tonight will give Detroit its first road game of the season, which is something that is definitely needed. The Wings currently sit one point above Nashville, who is at the bottom of the Central Division standings.

And I wish Darren Helm was in the lineup
And, yet, here we are.

Good start, Ozzie.
Way to be on your knees as they’re crossing the blue line.

If I'm Ken Holland
I’m on the phone right now with anyone who’s awake and wants to deal.

me too
he keeps getting beat by trying to do much. he would have saved it had he stayed in position but he tried to shuffle over

Like I said a few games ago
He literally puts EFFORT into allowing some of these goals.

haha yeah its starting to look this way. sad how weak of a shot it was too…

From that "Not That This Is Any Better" files,
Howard comes in the Osgood.

yeah i know...

He was trying too hard.
Being the only one in the lineup who cares was disrupting chemistry.

Ok, maybe I'll dial the sarcasm down a bit...
We’ve all been wondering the same. Babcock gave a reason akin to “change things up” and “rotation.” He said he was disappointed that Helm’s not really “fighting for third line center,” but instead was having competition to keep the fourth line center spot.

Great clear
We’re the blue team right?
by Michael Petrella on Oct 27, 2009 9:29 PM CDT reply actions
Just my opinion...
but i say Osgood goes soon. like before the season is even a quarter over. Bring up Larsson, he can’t be that much of a drop off.
Generally
I would disagree, BUT! Babcock did look rather peeved about those two goals and pulled him REAL quick. You might be on to something.
by Michael Petrella on Oct 27, 2009 9:34 PM CDT up reply actions
Agreed.
If things continue the way they are, I would hope Ozzy could be traded for draft picks.
"Clogging up the bases isn't that great to me." -Dusty Baker on OBP
Maybe Vesa Toskala's parents.
I hear they let Vesa move back in after his torrid start to the season.
Hell I doubt the Griffins would take him.
But maybe we’ll get lucky somewhere
"Clogging up the bases isn't that great to me." -Dusty Baker on OBP
The problem...
is that every team’s goaltending situation is better than Detroit’s. It’d have to be to a team that has a quality starter and no backup to speak of.

Things are looking up!
for now…

Ozzie got the quick hook, huh?
I really hope this is just a hangover from the end of last season, not unlike what the Penguins went through the first half (and then some) of last year.

Hordichuk
Goes in high with the elbow on Ericsson. Then face washes him. Then pulls him toward the ice.
Ericsson does nothing because he’s the largest pansy on the planet.

The correct answer is Filppula
I wonder why this shift looks infinitely better than the rest, and why the Cleary/Bertuzzi line is working so well as a new combination.
by Michael Petrella on Oct 27, 2009 10:16 PM CDT reply actions
The correct answer is no one
I wonder who’s going to come to Brad Stuart’s defense on this shift?

I would love to see that guy fight Bertuzzi...
Bert hasn’t dropped the gloves yet but he can still throw the hammer when needed.
Don't remember the article...
I read an article recently that quoted him as saying he doesn’t want to fight anymore. Not that he wasn’t willing, just that he doesn’t want to and those days are behind him.
More sad trombone…

yeah i read that article too. I think if its to defend himself he will. or he could be smart and let it be a one side for roughing.

Andre Agassi used crystal meth in 1997. Really? I guess tennis would be more fun on crystal meth now that i think about it.
I have to imagine BASEBALL would be halfway bearable to watch...
Although, I don’t really know what crystal meth does to you.

He’s a Detroit-area eye doctor, and his commercials run during the Fox Sports Detroit broadcasts. Last season, Pavel Datsyuk was his spokesman, and he STRUGGLES his way through this commercial.
The commercial is one of the best reasons to have Center Ice. I don’t know what I’d do with myself if I couldn’t see Dr. Rahmani commercials here in New York.

Goodnight all
crazy third period, better passing, Datsyuk breaking through, Howard stepping up (sort of), and a much needed win.
wow what a comeback
have we finally awoken?…i believe Datsyuk has and wow huge saves late in the game by Howard…maybe this coming out party?? (finally)
we seem to have gotten over that HURDLE
thanks for a great season Rockies!
LETS GO WINGS!
Great Game
Sorry I missed the game thread. Was keeping tabs on the game. 2-1 going into 3rd and a 5-4 win!!! Good job.
