Red Wings v Stars
Dallas Stars at Detroit Red Wings, Nov 18, 2009 6:30 PM CST
The Red Wings hope to make it four in a row when they host the Dallas Stars at Joe Louis Arena tonight. The Red Wings come off an ugly 7-4 win, topped off with the first Red Wings hat trick in 108 games as Henrik Zetterberg netted his third with less than a second left.
The Stars lost to the Phoenix Coyotes Saturday night in Glendale 3-2 on goals by former Red Wing Robert Lang and Westland-native Mike Modano. University of Michigan graduate Marty Turco has heated up, going 5-1-1 in his last seven starts with a sparking 2.10 GAA. Dallas has scored two goals in each of their last six games.
Zetterberg won the First Star of the Week award Monday after a spectacular run featuring nine points in three games, including his first five-point game Saturday. Niklas Kronwall has seven points over that same stretch.
Mike Babcock said yesterday that he will start Jimmy Howard tonight, with the plan of giving Chris Osgood the start on Friday night against the Florida Panthers. However, he did note that Howard has been playing well the last three games, leaving the subtle hint that if Howard does very well tonight (like he did against Vancouver), Babcock would be amenable to riding Howard for a while.
Check out Defending Big D to read more about the Stars. Puck drops at 7:30 pm ET. The game is on FS Detroit, FS Southwest in Dallas, and NHL Network in the US (which means it is not on Center Ice). I'll be back here then!

Here's a bit of trivia...
That’s Brad May’s first minor penalty of the season.

DAL GOAL Ribiero 6 (PP) (Richards, Robidas) 9:26
A tough-luck goal: Jonathan Ericsson was on stomach, and swung his stick back. Ribiero was trying to pass the puck across the crease and hit Ericsson’s stick, which put it past Howard.
Howard...
does a good job making the initial save, but he’s always waaaaay out of position for the rebound chances.

I like knowing who to blame.
And it’s just easier to remember “whoever is playing goal tonight” than finding a new candidate.

DAL GOAL: NISKANEN (1) (Richards, Neal) 3:52
Brad Richards sets him up beautifully, and Niskanen fires one with eyes that gets back behind Howard. It’s 2-0.
May on his back in the net, Auld on his posterior...
…Skrastins got his stick in there and bodies were flying.
i score on that

DET GOAL: Zetterberg (9) (Leino, Lebda) 6:16
Leino sets him up on the blue line, and with Richards behind him, he puts it past Auld! 2-1

That's where I'm at.
I don’t understand how the game has been allowed to proceed. It may as well have hit the back bar…that’s as in as in gets.
by Michael Petrella on Nov 18, 2009 8:42 PM CST up reply actions
Bettman would call...
and say that the back bar doesnt count
by Casey Richey on Nov 18, 2009 8:44 PM CST up reply actions
I really believe...
that’s the official that overruled that call. Toronto would not have called if they didn’t think it was a goal. And that’s shameful.
Exactly.

Babcock in the post game: He thought that Toronto was calling to try to get LaRue to save face, but LaRue wasn’t going to have any part of it.
Alright Mr. Babcock
your bill for tonight comes to a total of $10,000. Would you like to add tip?

I agree
Upon Further Review: Did referee Dennis LaRue make the right call disallowing Bray May’s apparent goal?
