[Game Thread] Bruins @ Wings

Boston Bruins at Detroit Red Wings, Nov 3, 2009 6:00 PM CST

The Wings return to the Joe from the road trip on a good note following the win over Calgary. As if facing Ilya Bryzgalov, Roberto Luongo, Craig Anderson, and Miikka Kiprusoff weren't enough, the Wings get the defending Vezina Trophy winner Tim Thomas to shoot at tonight. Thomas also benefits from a good defense around him to help keep shots to the outside. Although the offense isn't nearly as potent this year as last year, the Bruins still have undeniable talent and much like the Red Wings are trying to simply coordinate it all in an effective manner.

Two teams on the relatively same page in terms of dominance last year and sputtering thus far this year are realizing the points are going to be precious this year. Should be a hard fought game with lots of effort from both sides.

What to look for: The physicality of Boston versus the injured/sick Red Wings. I'm looking forward to watching Pavel Datsyuk versus Zdeno Chara. Will Tomas Holmstrom continue on his offensive resurgence?

Puck drops at 7 p.m. ET and will air on Versus or TSN. As always, GO WINGS!

Unfortunately I won’t be able to watch the game because I have DirecTV… Hopefully I can find a stream that stays up for more than 1 period. They’ve really been cracking down on them now, I use to be able to find 3 or 4 every Wings game last season.

Wow what saves by Ozzie

Sturm stopped twice. Two close calls but Ozzie saves the first and gets a lucky bounce off the post.

Good PK

Followed by two quick chances at even strength

Wings to the Power Play

Hooking call brings Detroit their first man advantage of the game.

by Casey Richey on Nov 3, 2009 6:39 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Well...

that was quick. Zetterberg rips the shot past Thomas for a 1-0 Detroit lead, 2 seconds into the power play

By Pavel Datsyuk to Tomas Holmstrom. Bertuzzi gets the secondary assist on Homer’s 8th goal of the year.

20 saves, less than halfway through the game?

This isn’t the Red Wings defense we used to know….

not at all...

but Rafalski, Ericsson out from the flu.

Speaking of shots, out of curiosity i looked up earlier today the most shots faced in a game: 83…holy crap.

Bertuzzi to the box for holding

weak in my opinion but i’m obviously biased

Another good PK

That time, a lot more pressure to deal with but 0 shots in the net is a good sign.

by Casey Richey on Nov 3, 2009 8:03 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Kronwall with a good offensive chance

Then takes an accidental high stick to give the Red Wings another power play.

by Casey Richey on Nov 3, 2009 8:09 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Decent chances on the powerplay

best part is that 2 minutes are gone off the clock as a result.

by Casey Richey on Nov 3, 2009 8:10 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Wideman's hipcheck...

…on Helm lands him in the box for interference but a Red Wings penalty for interference follows immediately.

by Casey Richey on Nov 3, 2009 8:17 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Michael Ryder holds Zetterberg

4 on 3 powerplay, then even strength, then 5 on 4 powerplay.

by Casey Richey on Nov 3, 2009 8:22 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Clearly Joe B of Versus...

…hasn’t payed that much attention to the Wings this year “This Red Wings team that is so proficient at locking up leads”….what?

by Casey Richey on Nov 3, 2009 8:24 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Thomas to the bench

Extra man and an empty net for the Bruins

Osgood with 29 saves and his 50th career shutout.

Another Great Game

Just walked in from the Wings 2-0 victory. Osgood played very well. Kronwall hits anything that moves. Datsyuk played great.
