[Game Thread] Red Wings vs. Sharks

The Detroit Red Wings take their two-game winning streak against the red-hot San Jose Sharks at Joe Louis Arena tonight. The Sharks are on a six-game winning streak, leading the Pacific Division with 23 points and trailing only the Colorado Avalanche (24 points) in the Western Conference.

San Jose comes in having beaten the Columbus Blue Jackets Wednesday night 3-2 via a shootout. 8-2 in the last 10 games, Patrick Marleau has scored a point in his last nine starts for the Sharks. Dany Heatley is tied for sixth in the league in goals with 10. Meanwhile, Evgeni Nabokov has a sparking 10-3-1 record in 2009, with a 2.38 goals against average.

It's the first meeting of 2009-10 for these two teams: they split the regular season series last year, with the home team winning every game.

The game is on FSN-Detroit and CSN California. Comment away below!

This is a great hockey game.

Disagree. I think getting to the skills competition was a great outcome, and the Wings looked dominant in the latter part of the third and overtime.

I feel like

it was a well-earned two points. Both teams played hard. But the Sharks certainly ran out of gas. With the way the Wings season began, I’ll take them however I can get them – and if we need baby steps to winning big games by taking advantage of back to back nights of our opponents, so be it. What a phenomenal hockey game.

we did what we had to do to win the game

there has been a few games this year where we deserved it more than tonight and lost…so it makes up for itself

On Zetterberg’s goal they showed a replay where the ref should have blew the whistle but didn’t because he hesitated. I hate to blame a loss on a blown call though. At least we got a pity point! (sigh…)

Meh, maybe.

But in real time that puck isn’t covered very long before Z pokes it away. And you can see it the entire time in slow mo. Never completely in Nabokov’s control. But yeah, the whistle could have been blown.
