[Game Thread] Wings @ Leafs

Detroit Red Wings at Toronto Maple Leafs, Nov 7, 2009 6:00 PM CST

Paul Sancya - AP

The Toronto Maple Leafs come off a much needed win over the Carolina Hurricanes. The matchup was between the league's two worst teams, but that doesn't mean there's any reason to sleep on the Leafs. Detroit, however, is on a three game win streak and has gone 4-0-1 in the last 5 games.

This Original Six matchup will likely center around defense. Toronto is averaging only 2.43 goals a game and have a defenseman leading in the points column with Tomas Kaberle's 18.

What to look for: Lots of shooting from Detroit against a team that gives up the most goals in the league and has the worst penalty kill as well. Datsyuk, Zetterberg, and Leino should be able to find seams in this defense and get shots to the net.

Puck drops at 7:00 p.m. ET and will air on CBC in Canada and NHL Network in the US

Pension Plan Puppets is the SB Nation Leafs affiliate.

I want a SlapChop

In the worst way. And not just because Vince tells me I’ll love his nuts. We have a Bed Bath and Beyond version. Two slaps does not make a tuna less boring.

I'll take that bet.

I remember when the Red Wings DIDN’T have Steve Yzerman. HA!

That would have been great.

Maybe we wouldn’t have sucked donkey nard for forty years. HA

Dirty dirty hit

By Orr. Hits to the head? We sure they’re being addressed by the NHL??

by Casey Richey on Nov 7, 2009 6:38 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Missed it...

Hope they show a replay.

Did anyone think

Datsyuk was doing one of his crazy dekes when he dropped his stick. I did.

Maybe now you'll never slime a guy with a positron collider!

by rwum14 on Nov 7, 2009 6:39 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

haha me too

he should do that, he could probably get away with it and score somehow

What a shift

If only Niklas Kronwall had taken that shot a little quicker.

Primeau beats Osgood

on a shot that shoulda been stopped 10:34 from Colton Orr

by Casey Richey on Nov 7, 2009 6:44 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

It's okay

I’m biased against Osgood.

by Michael Petrella on Nov 7, 2009 6:48 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

I should say...

I’m biased against terrible goaltending. I got no beef with Christopher, the man.

by Michael Petrella on Nov 7, 2009 6:50 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

same for Lebda

well…except for the expression he had on his face following the Havlat injury, not particularly cool in my book

by Casey Richey on Nov 7, 2009 6:54 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

I don't think I saw it.

But I’m sure I would have hated it, too. Some things have no place in hockey.

"Osgood doesn't know where the puck is."

Momentary observation or career sum-up? HA

Phil Kessel scores first as a Maple Leaf

Kessel continues the path of Jason Blake’s shot (probably unnecessarily) to get his first goal as a Maple Leaf. Goal comes at 19:34 from Jason Blake and Ian White

by Casey Richey on Nov 7, 2009 7:08 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

it's the frickin maple leafs, treat 'em like the two win team they are

annoying to be down two goal to this team.

Granted, they are 1-1 since Kessel got back, so maybe it’s a new era or whatever for them? But still, what the heck?

by rwum14 on Nov 7, 2009 7:25 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Wait a second....

Either the puck was loose, or a defenseman had it covered in the crease. one doesn’t deserve a whistle, and the other’s a penalty shot…

by Michael Petrella on Nov 7, 2009 7:26 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Thats what I was thinking...

by vtcub on Nov 7, 2009 7:27 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Furthermore...

Detroit has possession of the puck when they blew the whistle on this Maple Leafs penalty. I smell something afoot.

What happened

I can’t really tell…

by Michael Petrella on Nov 7, 2009 7:37 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

his right leg got caught

and he fell back on it at a weird angle. I’m guessing MCL or PCL strain at the least, tear at the worst…

by Casey Richey on Nov 7, 2009 7:38 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Gustavsson looks good

I hate to admit it but he’s in perfect position almost every time…except his Dom Hasek moment.

by Casey Richey on Nov 7, 2009 7:41 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Oh weak

Hagman grabbed onto Draper’s stick as he fell, makes it look worse

Lidstrom with a big hit

Rare sit in these days for him but nice hit

by Casey Richey on Nov 7, 2009 7:46 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Helm's speed...

clutch with Rafalski missing on the pinch and leaving Stuart alone. Turned a 2 on 1 into an even rush.

SBN Godfather Mirtle talking smack on Twitter

Asking if “this is what Detroit looks like this season.” Heavy talk from the guy who covers the two-win Maple Leafs.

by Casey Richey on Nov 7, 2009 8:19 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

hahaha Datsyuk

only he could deke himself out, fall, keep possession of the puck and get up

by Casey Richey on Nov 7, 2009 8:21 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

yay!

And Danny’s 100th to boot. :)

#100

Congratulations to Daniel Cleary.

by Michael Petrella on Nov 7, 2009 8:22 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Dan Cleary scores career goal 100

Both teams changing and Brian Rafalski makes a great pass to Dan Cleary who had only Gustavsson to beat.

by Casey Richey on Nov 7, 2009 8:22 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Hey, what do you know?

Brett Lebda got beat again and now the Leafs have another power play

by Casey Richey on Nov 7, 2009 8:33 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Okay,I've had it with Osgood

I’ve supported him at the rough times this year, but really? come on.

by Casey Richey on Nov 7, 2009 8:36 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Well, that was pathetic

5-1, Williams injured, Osgood awful…Recap up soon.

by Casey Richey on Nov 7, 2009 8:48 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Osgood with a chummy talk at the bench...

Nothing to get your panties in a bunch about, eh, Chris?
