Jason Williams breaks right fibula
As if a 5-1 loss wasn't bad enough, the Wings will now be without Jason Williams for at least two months. Williams had his right leg buckle underneath him in the second period and it was caught underneath the weight of his body as he fell. The injury is apparently to the lower part of the fibula which probably means the "at least two months" part will be closer to 4 months before he can fully recover. Here's what Babcock had to say following the game:
"Losing Willy was a blow to us," Detroit coach Mike Babcock said. "He's playing more minutes and in more situations than we anticipated. But that's just the way it's gone."
Williams was indeed playing more minutes and starting to adjust to the system again during his second stint with the team and was on one of the power-play units with his rocket of a shot. Detroit has already lost Johan Franzen and Valtteri Filppula to injury and the depth that was the strong point of the team last year is starting to show as the weakness in this season's team. When the Red Wings announce a call-up replacement for Willy, we'll be sure to fill you in.

Help!
I hope we can get a scoring forward, but I hope we are also looking for a back-up goalie.

Suit up Yzerman
Yes, we definitely need a Goalie, I was thinking Ozzie was going to get pulled last night. Ozzie checked out after the first period, Howard should have been brought in, you listening Babcock you boob! We have the depth up front, the horses, give them ice time, If Biron becomes available we better trade off Howard and Meech. Got to make playoffs..

Most of the goals Saturday were still crazy deflections and stuff, so to fully blame Ozzie is a stretch. Also that PP goal they gave up to Mitchell, that kill was the worst one I have seen all year. The last three games and the first of the Toronto game, they FINALLY were playing very aggressive and not giving the opponent any time to set up. They were skating hard and were all over the player with the puck. That kill, they just stood around. It was simply AWFUL!! The only goal that he should have had was the Primeau goal, the others were all on some sort of deflection. Ozzie’s biggest fault right now is that he is just not as big as the other goalies in the league. Right now the biggest goalies are the most successful. The smaller pads don’t affect them as much.
I definitely would agree that if Biron was available that they should go for him. They have Meech, Howard, and Lebda they could use as players to trade.
I also would say hmmm, maybe Shanahan would help us out. The problem would be when everyone was healthy again, what would they do about the cap?? I just don’t see any way of getting help at the forward position without trading other forwards for them.

Strongly disagree
In my mind, Oz was to blame for every goal but the PP one. The Primeau one was weak, Kessel’s goal was bad rebound control, the backhand shot by Ponikarovsky was awful, Finger’s shot was even stoppable despite it being a 3-on-2.
I think Holland is determined to keep the team how it is and make the team play despite injuries. Shanahan won’t return to Detroit while Babcock is in town and I think the goaltending situation is just going to have to be dealt with as it is, unfortunately.

Agreed
I dont think there will be any big moves by Holland, maybe get another prospect or two some time in the big club. I doubt we are going to see Howard next season, hopefully Larson or Mcollum will play back up next season then when Osbads contract is up the other will move up as well and get tandem time the way Osbad and Hasek did.

actually the one good thing about all these injuries is
they are happening now…hopefully we will be healthy by playoff time (if we get there…wow haven’t ever said that since i started watching hockey in ’93)…Go Wings!
