Zetterberg out for two weeks

From early reports, Henrik Zetterberg will be out two weeks at the least with a slightly separated shoulder. Zetterberg was absolutely rocked on clean hit from Mattias Ohlund and left the game last night.

Zetterberg leads Detroit in scoring with 32 points (10 G, 22 A) and has been a vital part of the success despite the other injuries this year. The loss for two weeks will be huge as the Wings have numerous games against Central Division opponents. Zetterberg would have been a big help in making up ground but the Wings will have to do without him.

Filling his spot? If Darren Helm can return from his injury he's likely to fill the starting spot (not on Z's line probably, but just the vacancy). However, if Helm is unable to return, the Wings may need to call up another Grand Rapids player to fill the spot. We'll keep you posted on the injury and replacement process as it happens.

Chime in with your thoughts though. If the Wings were to call up a Griffin who would you want to see? Note: Tatar is playing for Slovakia right now.

This is getting ridiculous,

I have never seen this many injuries within the wings. I must admitt though, great play from drew miller, patrick eaves, and even last night janik looked good defensively. 2 weeks for hank being gone sucks considering we have the hawks sunday. whats the status of Franzen, williams, flips anybody know?

Filppula is supposed to be back early January at the latest.
Franzen by Olympics at the latest
Williams who really knows.

On the bright side Howard was fantastic!

Calling up a Griff.

If we have to call up someone from the Giffs I would like to see Emmerton or Pare, though I have a feeling it would be Vigilante in the event no one can come back from being injured. I hope all of our players feel better soon and heal quickly!

by Kalyn88 on Dec 18, 2009 11:45 AM CST reply actions

I agree. Emmerton has played very well and so has Pare. They have to replace offense this time.

On a side note, this is crazy I know, if and when everyone is healthy… What is their plan with Drew Miller? He is making a very good impression on me anyways. I’d rather have him out there than Leino right now.

Good question! I think that Miller is a great addition to the team and a better option then Leino at the moment. I hope they keep him on.

Not only in 8th spot, but only 6 points behind the Hawks who are in 1st place.

Mule?

With Franzen’s type of injury (MCL) I do not think he will be back until late March or early April. Jimmy Howard has been excellent!

I will admit that I am not a fan of Howard, but he has been impressing me!

Hey guys, I'm new here

But here’s my thoughts about who comes up if Helm can’t play. I know Meech hasn’t played forward much this year, but I think he has in years past. So how about bumping Meech to forward and calling up Kindul?

by sparto on Dec 18, 2009 3:22 PM CST reply actions

welcome to WIM!

and you know, that’s an interesting thought…I hadn’t really thought of that but I dont know if we’ll see it because of two things.
a. need to replace with offense, not grinder
b. the guys down in GR (offensive players) are very capable of testing the NHL waters with this opportunity.

But, you bring up an excellent point and i definitely wouldnt rule it out!

give it time

By Valentine’s Day maybe ALL of the Griffins will get an opportunity.

Whoever the coach of the Griffins is, he has my sympathy – the Wings just keep taking all his players. At least they have Nylander.

Trade

Last time I made a post about making a trade people seemed to be against it. Anyone else now on the bandwagon? Tampa has a couple of stars they might trade.

by Kman23 on Dec 18, 2009 10:17 PM CST reply actions

Just for shits and gigs, what trades do you think they should make?

by Kalyn88 on Dec 18, 2009 10:59 PM CST up reply actions

No trade please

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I don’t remember any trade the Wings have pulled where they got someone who just lit it up in the 2nd half.

Holland has said he's not looking at trades

When asked, he said he wasn’t looking at any trades because the injured players are going to be back, and then the team will have to get rid of people to fit under the salary cap again, and next year they will wish that they had the players back that they had to jettison for a few months of someone that Detroit traded for to cover for injuries.

Drew Miller was a pickup off the waiver wire, and a pretty good one, but anything that will cost actual bodies in a trade now or when injured players return is not going to happen.

I hope we finish 8th in the West

Once we get all of our guys back (and keep everyone else healthy, fingers crossed), I’m sure we’ll end up higher, but how demoralizing would it be for the conference champ to grab the first seed and win a date with us for a prize?
