Osgood vs. Howard

How does everyone feel about the Wings playing Howard over Chris Osgood lately??? I would not call myself a fan of Jimmy Howard, number 35, but he had been impressing me. I was more then a little upset when we lost Conklin and kept Howard, and when we lost to St. Louis at the Joe it made it even worse. It is undeniable that he is getting better with his first career shut out and 30 saves in his game against Tampa.

Howard. In my eyes, Osgood is now the backup goalie. Howard has been surprisingly good and I welcome it with open arms.

It seems the Wings have more confidence right now in Howard and play better in front of him. He seems to make the first save, they just have to clear the rebounds.

It does seem like they play a little stronger with Howard in the net. Its hard for me to give up on Osgood and except Howard as our new guy.

At this moment, you have to ride the hot hand, and Howard is just blistering. Now, if this keeps up for another 40 odd games and we get to March, then you’ve got to make a hard call. But at this moment, be grateful to have a 1A and 1B on your roster.

For now, Howard.

See if he hits the rookie wall and fades later in the season, but no goaltender gets any better without playing, and he’s been taking advantage of the games he’s been starting to get better and the team has been getting comfortable in front of him.

If he doesn’t fade and continues to play well, and Osgood gets his head in the right place too, it will be tricky at the end of the season. But I’m glad to see Howard playing so well after he put in so much time in the AHL without complaint and waited patiently for his chance.

Wings goalies are strange, though – neither one of them looks older than about 12 years old.

Yeah, Chris Osgood doesn’t grow any facial hair it seems like. Weird.

my problem is

howard seems to tire after 3 straight starts. and osgood cant just jump into a game without playing one before the current game (chicago game). So this is not a good situation. Howard is amazing so far and has held us in so far but he tires out after a few starts in a row.

Im like Steve Yzerman! No, not the leadership, goals, two way play or sportmanship..... Just the knee pain!

Yeah, stamina is something we are having a problem with at this point. It seemed like the confidence of Chris Osgood is becoming shaken with his lack of ice time.

osgood vs howard

I used to be a big Osgood fan, until last year when we had Conklin playing for us. Osgood just makes so nervous. We should have kept conklin, and said goodbye to Osgood.

.100 Dropped

Osgood has always seemed to be the Wing’s goalie but seeing his saves drop .100 since the 07-08 season. Let Howard prove why he should play because Osgood has helped the Wings a ton.
