Game Thread: Red Wings vs. Rangers

Detroit Red Wings at New York Rangers, Dec 6, 2009 6:00 PM CST

The day after losing to the New Jersey Devils 4-3 in a shootout in Newark, the Detroit Red Wings will head to the other side of the Hudson to take on the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden.

The Rangers come home after beating the Buffalo Sabres 2-1 in Buffalo last night, as Marian Gaborik and Christopher Higgins scored for New York. Henrik Lundqvist had a sparking game, stopping 36 shots.

The Red Wings came back from 2-0 and 3-1 against the Devils on a multi-point game from Patrick Eaves and goals from Kris Draper and Tomas Holmstrom (his 200th career goal). Detroit is extremely banged up: Brian Rafalsi remains out with a back injury on top of the parade of others out. Pavel Datsuyk is tied for third in the NHL with 32 takeaways.

Marian Gaborik

is incredible. Hopefully he’s not that tonight but I’m not going to be surprised.

Howdy, all!

One of only three NHL rinks I’ve ever been to tonight. Jimmy Howard will get the start.

Sorry I'm late

Whack penalty on a great play by Abdelkader. And do mine eyes deceive me or is Ville Leino the odd man out – in favor of May and Miller?

by Michael Petrella on Dec 6, 2009 6:20 PM CST reply actions

Your eyes do not deceive, sir.

Two great chances for the Wings!

Bertuzzi and Datsuyk! That puck was lying there and Lundqvist didn’t know it.

by joehass on Dec 6, 2009 6:24 PM CST reply actions

The puck went through Datsuyk and Prospal’s legs going across the blue ice.

by joehass on Dec 6, 2009 6:40 PM CST reply actions

Totally

Nothing Howard could do on the re-direct, but a disheartening goal nonetheless.

Brian Callahan going in and Ericsson hooked him.

STOPPED!

Howard held his left pad against the goal post and Callahan can’t put it up!

Brad Stuart just laid out Artem Anisimov!

Anisimov just was skating along as if nothing could possibly go wrong, and Brad Stuart laid him out with a shoulder check. Anisimov is trying to figure out what the license plate was.
