[Game Thread] Wings vs. Avalanche

It's a twilight content down at Joe Louis tonight as the Red Wings take on the Colorado Avalanche.

The Wings come off the 3-2 loss to the Blue Jackets in Columbus Friday night. They can tie for San Jose for the conference lead (the Sharks are trailing at the time of this post 3-2 in the second against New Jersey). A big question: will the Wings power play wake up? Despite having the best powerplay in the league (26.6%), they're 0/9 in the Columbus and Minnesota contests. Marian Hossa has been held goalless over the past nights after scoring seven in the previous five games.

Meanwhile, Colorado comes in last in the Northwest Division, limping in on a four-game losing streak. Ryan Smyth had a two-goal night in Minnesota last Wednesday, and it'll be important for him to have a strong night tonight.

The Avalanche has won both prior contests this year, including a shootout victory on December 27. Tonight's game is on Fox Sports Detroit HD. Feel fre to chime in below!

Not Bad

I didn’t see the first half of the game but I’m liking what I’m seeing so far. Offense is looking to be making solid passing and they’re challenging the Avs in front of the net. Osgood is looking ok with a couple of bad hops and deflections hurting him. Still a lot of time left in the 3rd so fingers crossed things end well.

Wait never mind, as I’m typing this the Avs scored their 4th… Great.

PS- Hossa is an animal and his second goal with Rafalski was poetry on ice.

And THAT

Was the type of game that just makes you want to tear your hair out.

Yep.

At first, you’re proud because your team came from behind and Hossa is a frickin’ genius. But then your team loses the one-goal lead twice and you get frustrated.

Absolutely...

Even worse when you know your team missed an opportunity to gain ground on the Sharks who lost today.

Yeah.

It would have been great to have tied San Jose for the WC lead tonight – even if they have three games in hand.
