[Game Thread] Wings @ Blue Jackets

Later today, the Detroit Red Wings (45-15-9) hope to win their second straight game and snap the Columbus Blue Jackets' (36-27-6) four-game winning streak. After suffering a dreadful 8-2 loss against Columbus last Saturday, today's game will give the Wings a shot at redemption in CBJ's building.

Forward Valtteri Filppula left Saturday's game early due to back spasms and will not play today. Anticipate Chris Osgood to get a start in goal today.

The game starts at 5 p.m. and will be shown on FSDetroit. Go Wings!

Stuart's goal at 19:31 was waved off.

Tomas Holmstrom was in the crease. There was absolutely no interference by Homer, but because Steve Mason couldn’t move freely about the crease the goal was waved off.

Hossa scores as he outmuscles CBJ's #51.

He made a shot and then grabbed the rebound, taking another shot to beat Mason.

It was his 35th goal of the season.

how did he even get that through? was it below mason’s leg pad? i couldn’t tell because my feed is over the internet and is kind of fuzzy at times.

To be honest...

I couldn’t tell if it squirted through his pads or squeezed between the post and his leg. If I had to guess, I would say it went through Mason’s legs.

ah okay

Yeah i think it might have gone 5-hole. yay Hossa!

WIM favorite Niklas Kronwall scores!

The Wings capitalize on a 5-on-3 power-play opportunity. Jiri Hudler dished the puck from the left faceoff dot to Kronner, who one-timed a rocket from the high slot. Mason was unable to see Kronwall’s shot with Johan Franzen screening down low.

Okay...

So Hudler was to the left of the faceoff dot.

Kronner’s rocket went into the upper right corner of the net – quite the beauty!

FSDetroit reports that...

The Blue Jackets have never won four straight over the Wings, nor four games against Detroit in a single season. Let’s hope that streak continues tonight!

FYI

Michigan earns its first NCAA bid in 11 years!! The Wolverines will face Clemson on Thursday in Kansas City, Missouri. Go Blue!

First Goal by Hossa

I know this comment is a little late. Regarding the first goal scored by Hossa: Mason was hugging the post, had his paddle down on the ice, but lifted his right pad just a little as Hossa shot the puck and it squirted through the opening.

Franzen scores!

Wings are now up 4-0!

4 Blue Jackets go towards Datsyuk, who slips a beauty of a backhanded pass to Franzen allowing him to pop the puck into the net.

Worth the Wait

Nice patience shown by Franzen holding on to the puck and waiting for the opening. It would be great to see him get hot down the stretch like last year. And great to see the Wings play a defensivley sound game. They’ve been too few and far between this year.

Especially great to see it against CBJ.

We desperately needed to beat them for a confidence boost should we face them in the playoffs and this road game gave us just that. Go Wings!

payback

now they need to go back to St. Louis and run their goaltender several times! =]

9th consecutive seasons with 100 points.

Osgood ties Mike Vernon on the all-time victory list for goalies (No. 11).

Ozzie earned his 49th career shutout.
