Franzen Signs on for 11 More Years
Big news out of Hockeytown today as the Detroit Red Wings signed forward Johan Franzen to an 11 year deal worth $43.5 million. The new contract provides a lot of direction for the Red Wings come offseason in terms of trying to resign Marian Hossa and/or Jiri Hudler.
Franzen, 29, has seen his numbers improve every year since joining the Red Wings and has tallied a career high 34 goals this season. The 11 year deal comes months after the Wings re-signed Henrik Zetterberg to a 12 year deal.
The signing of Franzen gives the Wings a definite number to work with an attempt to bring Hossa in long term. Franzen provides great size and has shown incredible improvement with his shooting skills.

This is great news
Franzen is becoming a top goal scorer in the NHL and the loyalty the Red Wings continue to dish out to players make it all the more intriguing for players such as Hossa to resign. I love it.
Also, I’d like to welcome the new writers here at WIM. Joe Hass, Mr Norris Trophy, and Motown Chollis. Forgive me for the late welcome. You guys will complement Christy very nicely. So far, I love your work. Christy does a great job with this site and I’m sure you guys will make her proud. Go Wings!
Thank You
Thank you for the input! We feel that it will be a great opportunity with more writers to provide the most coverage possible.
Hossa to 10 year deal? Now that’s what I would like to see!
