[Game Thread] Game 2: Columbus @ Detroit

Stay connected for news and updates

Detroit leads series 1-0

Following a slow start in the first period in Game 1, the Red Wings woke up in the second period and scored three times on 12 shots. In a first period that saw the Blue Jackets register 13 shots on goal, Chris Osgood set the tone for the game with his play in net for the Red Wings and helped secure a 4-1 victory.

Detroit benefited from goalscoring from unexpected sources. Jonathan Ericsson scored the second Detroit goal on a slapshot that hit off the glove of Blue Jackets forward Manny Malholtra. Niklas Kronwall added the second goal from a defenseman later in the period as the Wings took a 3-1 lead into the 3rd period. Jiri Hudler started the scoring for the Wings and Johan Franzen added the final goal, giving Detroit production from its top lines.

What to look for: In game 2, look for both teams to make adjustments. Detroit will look to continue setting the pace offensively while stepping up the defensive part of their game. Columbus will look to get a more solid performance out of their forwards while hoping goalie Steve Mason can stay solid.

Puck drops at 6:00 PM ET and the game will be shown on FS-D and NHL Network and as always, GO WINGS!
