Anaheim (42-33-7, 91 pts) vs. Detroit (51-21-10, 112 pts)
Anaheim is fresh off their upset of the 1 seeded Sharks while the Wings are just fresh. Its been 8 days since the Wings took the ice last for a competitive game and have had plenty of time to rest while the Ducks entertained the physical Sharks for six games.
The Sharks play virtually the same game as the Red Wings so there shouldn't be much need for adjustment on the Ducks part. The Sharks may play the same game but no one can play it as well as the Red Wings. The Red Wings will try to control the puck for the majority of the game and get as many shots on net as possible. If the Ducks fall into trouble in the penalty category, Detroit could capitalize often andmake a big difference in the game.
What to look for: Jonas Hiller will have to put forth another monumental effort in net as he faces the team that lead the league in shots per game. Ryan Getzlaf will need to lead the Ducks offensively as Chris Osgood looks to improve upon his already stellar playoff performance. The Wings will look for Hossa and Zetterberg to continue their production while trying to get Datsyuk going offensively.
Game 1 starts at 7 p.m. ET and will be on Versus and as always, GO WINGS!

That’s not a good way to start the series. Hopefully its not too serious although with the lay off they had, if he is still not recovered I cannot imagine its good news. Looks like Chelios is getting the start in his place.

The cameras are terrible on Versus. By far the worst I’ve seen all year. I hope those of you in Detroit have another option.

Man, they’re not playing as well as they should be. Those two penalties in the second felt like a gut-punch. They need to step it up.

Question
Why do so many teams use the dump and chase technique? I think its kind of stupid. I understand for line changes but when you’re not changing lines, I think it’s dumb to give up possession in a hope that you’ll regain it. just carry the puck in!

Well, for physical teams it allows them a chance to get in on another team. If they’re good, they’ll regain the puck. For other teams, they’re just not good enough to bring it over the blue-line. To be fair, it’s pretty hard and you need a lot of good stickhandlers to do it consistently enough for it to work as a strategy.

Yeah that makes sense for a team like Anaheim. I’m a fan of a forward carrying it in, and holding it until he has more teammates but I guess like you said its hard to do consistently. Its kind of like in soccer when they pass the ball waaaaaaaaaaaay back to the goalie after having it in the other teams 18. haha oh well. They’re professionals, I’m not.

Looking at the minutes that Getzlaf is getting, and I’m smiling. In a long series (Which this probably will be) those minutes are going to wear him down more and more. The advantage of rolling 4 lines. :-D
