My Article on DRW.com
As an intern for the Detroit Red Wings, I had a chance to write an article for the official team website about the difficulty in repeating as Stanley Cup champions. For the article, I interviewed Gordie Howe, Nicklas Lidstrom, Kris Draper and Chris Osgood.
“We’re experienced enough that yeah, you get nervous, but you don’t feel that pressure because you’re not going through that blind,” Osgood said. “You know what you’re doing.”
You can check out what they had to say at DRW.com.

Wow - that's cool
I would have been really nervous talking to Gordie Howe – the other guys too, but more so him. Good article – shows the differences between pre-salary cap and now really well – I mean what have the Canadiens (or Leafs) done over the past decade? Faded glory….

Great Writing - REPEAT CHAMPS?
I enjoyed your article, and you made good points. Since the Red Wings consistently have great chemistry in their lockerroom -a key to a team sharing, growing and accepting roles - that leaves injuries and motivation. From my experience playing the game at a high level I can tell you that at about mid-season EVERYONE has some type of nagging injury they are dealing with. Most manage to get through the season with it, while others need time off to care for it so they can come back in strong at the playoffs. That is what a lot of fans fail to understand: why their favorite, or best, players are underperforming at playoff time — they’re still injured. The little ones (but ones that CAN inhibit your play) you never hear about. As to the team’s motivation this year… boy, that’s a hard one. With the SCFs going into June, the guys get little down time before conditioning camps and pre-season games begin again. A good captain can provide some help in motivating. A fresh outlook can also come from “new blood” in the lockerroom — guys who have never won the cup — and can really make a difference (like Dallas Drake did last year). We’ll see if Hossa is able to do that, or if Eriksson’s enthusiasm can. GO WINGS!

It's not that tough when you have a dynasty
Great article, but when you have a team like Detroit, it’s not as difficult as one may think. The grand rapids team has players that would be wearing the A or C on other NHL teams, so a team like Detroit is stacked with talent, and skill. Yeah, other teams are hungry, and are after blood when the stanley cup champions come to town, but refs are aware of the skill, and try favoring those teams more because of the other teams aggressiveness. So, if refs continue to make consistent calls, and not the games get out of control, then the wings are by far the best team that has ever stepped on the ice. They’d be even greater with me in the lineup though :-) Christy, I love that you love hockey… your quite attractive too.
