Detroit leads series 1-0
Anaheim came into Detroit on Friday night still feeling the rush of knocking off the #1 seeded Sharks. They came out faster, more physical, and more driven than the Red Wings and were able to put a goal on the board early.
Then they got a little too intense. Mike Brown's hit on Jiri Hudler at open ice landed him in the dressing room and the Wings on a 5 minute power play. The Wings capitalized on the power play and used that momentum to carry them through the rest of the game. Captain Nick Lidstrom put a puck through the five-hole of Jonas Hiller with 50 seconds left to play to give the Wings a 3-2 lead and eventual win.
What to look for: If Nick Lidstrom can continue being a force on offense while being the rock of the Detroit defense, things could get ugly for Anaheim. Also, if Johan Franzen continues rolling, things could get really ugly for the Ducks. Another thing to look for is if there is any sort of retaliation towards Mike Brown for the hit. Since he has not been suspended, he'll be in the line-up today in front of 20,000 upset Wings fans.
Game 2 starts at 2 p.m. ET and will air on NBC and as always, GO WINGS!

and the series we played against them was FAR BELOW the excitement level I had anticipated. They were not as impressive as the hype had led me to believe. We smoked them. The recent series against the CBJs felt much the same. Only Mason lived up to my expectations.

Sometimes too fine
I think the the guys who are amazing handling the puck sometimes try to create a perfect shot a little bit too often – sometimes you gotta throw the puck at the goal and see what happens. There were multiple instances in that period where they hung on to the puck without getting a shot b/c it seemed like they were trying to create a highlight.

i kind of agree, but instead of 'highlight', my mind calls up 'perfect shot'.
Either way, not all goals are pretty, and we do need to throw the puck at the net more. Our first ‘goal’ of the game is the PERFECT example, actually.. A pass wannabe turned into a goal, courtesy of the hockey gods via (was it) Wiznewski.

Yesterday’s Game 1 was on NBC at 1 in the afternoon, and both Crosby and Ovechkin scored in the Caps’ 3-2 win. The rest of the games will be available on Versus, the network owned by Ed Snider’s Comcast that came up with approximately $85 million a year for the NHL out of the lockout. There will be no games at all on NBC next weekend — not Ovechkin-Crosby, not Detroit-Anaheim — because of a contractual commitment to the PGA’s The Players’ tournament.
