[Game Thread] Gm 4: Wings @ Ducks
Detroit Red Wings at Anaheim Ducks, May 7, 2009 9:30 PM CDT
Ducks lead series 2-1
Where to start. Well, if you're on this page you know what happened in Game 3. I'm not going to go into all that much detail about Game 3 and we'll just get things going for Game 4.
How can Detroit come off a game in which they tied it in the last minutes, only to have that tying goal taken away? Hopefully (if you're a Wings fan at least) they'll come out strong and with great intensity offensively to put Hiller on his heels early. It will be interesting to see how Babcock deals with Game 4 after announcing no line-up changes, surprising with Draper and Rafalski out.
What to look for: How will Detroit respond in Game 4? Will they come out with a renewed intensity or play the game like a sunken ship. Its time for Marian Hossa and Pavel Datsyuk to step up and score like they did in the regular season. Datsyuk has been a non-factor in this series (except for faceoffs) and is the driving force for the Wings offense. From Anaheim, look for them to keep doing what they're doing. The Niedermeyer brothers, Chris Pronger, Ryan Getzlaf, and Corey Perry are all keeping the Red Wings in check defensively while putting the puck in the net or helping out offensively.
Game 4 starts at 10:30 p.m. ET (ugh) and is aired on Versus.

This is probably the most nervous/excited/amped/tentative/whatever that I’ve been for a game this season. It’s not a must win game exactly in terms of survival but its a “Boy do we need this” game.

Time for the stars to be the stars...
I’m looking at Hossa, Datsyuk and Zetterberg to start producing tonight. Time to take back the series.

Sometimes on game day...
things get lost before people can read. We had some good stuff up today and yesterday including an article I wrote about solving Hiller. Hopefully some changes are made for the Wings.

For some reason that reminds me of this
At Ferris State games, one of my favorite things to yell is this: Right as icing occurs, you yell “Raise your hand if you are a pedophile!”
Amazing how many refs (and sometimes goalies) admit to being a pedophile lol.

We’ve forced some crucial turnovers, played better defense (except first minute), and exploited some bad Duck mistakes and all in all played better hockey. Here’s to the second period being more of the same.

hey, just curious, when did this site come to life, anyway?
I checked in every once in a while late last season, through part of this season, and there was never any traffic on the game threads, etc. And now, there is….
I’ve been hanging out at Pensburgh since last year’s SCF, mostly because there was a live game thread over there, that isn’t over the top annoyingly homeristic….glad to see winging it take flight, for sure…
by ahtrap on May 7, 2009 10:31 PM CDT reply actions 0 recs
Combination of a few things...
We had some great new bloggers join WIM so it wasn’t just me trying to do it all plus SBN partnered with Yahoo! Sports, which helped to send over some additional traffic.
Plus, the playoffs always bring out the fans. Over the years, my Red Wings blog traffic has at least doubled or tripled come playoff time.

PITTSBURGH (AP)—Police say they’ve traced an Internet death threat made against Washington Capitals star Alex Ovechkin to a 17-year-old boy.
Pittsburgh Lt. Kevin Kraus says the boy lives in Chambersburg, which is about 125 miles east-southeast of Pittsburgh. Kraus says state police have talked to the boy, but no charges were immediately filed.
The boy’s name wasn’t released because he’s a juvenile.
The posting on a hockey message board read, "I’m killing Ovechkin. I’ll go to jail. I don’t care anymore."
I (kind of) can’t believe anyone pays that close attention to board posts AND took it that seriously…

When or if Draper is ready, does Babcock insert him into the lineup? Obviously Helm deserves to stay in, so maybe Kopecky sits? and as i am typing SAMUELSSON SCORES!!!!! Thanks

Draper’s a pure leader but its hard to deny Helm’s impact. Kopecky likely would sit but Babcock is hesitant to sit players. Sure he’ll shuffle the lines but he likes to keep the same players going.

Rafalski?
Any predictions, are we gonna see him in Game 5?
I hope Helm stays in for Draper, he has added awesome speed and hitting so far.

Kopecky got hurt
So if Draper is ready to go he will be replacing him probably even in Kopecky is ready to go. I agree that Helm has been great. As for Rafalski, we have two days off here, sucks he got injured at this time. :(

He's with Grand Rapids
The minor league team but wasn’t called up for this round. He may be called up for the next round depending on injuries/need
