Crosby snubs Lidstrom

http://portal.wowway.net/news/read.php?id=17201637&ps=981%2C982&srce=news_class&action=1&lang=en&_LT=HOME_HKNWL00L1_UNEWS

Just read this article from WoW Sports, where it states that Crosby snubbed Lidstrom during the post game hand shake.  I did not see this during the handshake as all the attention was on Hossa.  This is the first time that I have read this, but if this is true this speaks highly of what a low-class act Sidney Cosby is, and just gives me more reason to hate him and wonder why Bettman thinks he is the face of the NHL.  I believe it to be pretty credible as there is no reason to not believe Draper, whose comment about the situation was right on.

Anyway, has anyone else seen this or read anything regarding this?

i heard something about it on yahoo sports. is it at all possible that he simply had a brain fart being that he just won the cup at 21?this isnt a guy whos 25 or 30 and knows exactly what to do in that situation. nevermind the game was one of the best hockey games i have ever seen. but you hated him before and will continue to ahte him untill he’s retired

There are many people who hate Lindros waaaaaaaayy after his retirement.

Is it wrong of me to giggle when my spell checker wants to turn Lindros into Laundries?

Crosby was celebrating with his teammates….If anything the Pens shouldn’t have started the handshake line until they were done with the initial celebration. Because obviously the losing team just wants to shake hands and get out of there.

I’m certain Crosby didn’t intend to snub Lidstrom, he was wrapped up in his celebration and caught in the moment. Which, given the circumstances, isn’t a mortal sin to me.

I think thats exactly what happened. The losing team usually tries to get off the ice quickly so the award ceremony can begin and those dogpiles can take a few minutes to unpile.

Funny, if Crosby was celebrating with his teammates how is it that ALL of them and the coaches made thru the handshake line and he didn’t?

I don't think there's much to this

As a Wings fan, I understand that Draper was trying to stick up for a teammate, especially when that teammate is Lidstrom, who exemplifies what is good about the game as much as anyone else in the NHL. But Draper’s comments sound like sour grapes in that context. I think Crosby just got caught up in the moment, and this will be more or less smoothed over by next season.

Even when he wins Crosby proves what a loser he is!

I was at the game last night and the video is also available ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P9I41yMiOPQ ). Listen closely to the background noise the fans are cheering at first and the boos don’t start until it became painfully obvious that Crosby wasn’t going to join the rest of the Pens.

Instead of being a leader Crosby chose to be the immature selfish brat that everybody (except Pittsburgh fans and Gary Bettman) says he is. I certainly hope he enjoys his cup and I also hope that when Steve Yzerman assembles Team Canada for the 2010 Olympics he remebers this night and decides that the players representing Canada need a little more class.

Crosby is hounded by the media after the game and is late to the handshake. He probably should have been rude to the media and broke away from an interview, but it is hardly anything horrible.

handshake line is one of the biggest traditions this sport has. As captain, Crosby has an obligation to be a full participant in it…that’s a bad screw up on his part…

and Lidstrom waited less then 10 seconds after the last Pen before Crosby and then left the ice. That’s poor sportsmanship. Crosby joined the line about 15-20 seconds later as the video above shows. I guess 30 seconds is too long for Lidstrom to wait

He was just getting off of the ice

It’s not unusual, really, to get off quickly so the winners can have their ceremony.

by Linnaeus on Jun 14, 2009 2:16 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

well then he shouldn’t have whined to the press about crosby not shaking his hand later

Did Lidstrom say anything?

I haven’t seen any quotes from him. Draper did say something, and I criticize Draper for doing so upthread.

by Linnaeus on Jun 14, 2009 2:33 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

I’m sure Lids was just as disappointed you know?
Still…he could’ve waited a little longer.

I think it was the media’s fault for interfering the tradition after every playoff series.

I don't get why he was presented with the Cup before the hand shaking was done.

I guess the media and Bettman are the ones who don’t give a crap about tradition.

It seemed to me, last year the Cup presentation was done after the shaking of hands. But I could be wrong.

by PQwingsfan on Jun 15, 2009 11:35 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

That's the way I view this issue

The fault lies squarely with Bettman. By presenting the Cup so quickly, he disregarded an NHL tradition. I can understand Crosby getting caught up in the moment. Even if he is an immature little punk, moments like that don’t come often. But Bettman seems to be the one who doesn’t understand the nuances of the sport he oversees. Give him a couple of years and I’m sure he’ll find a way to offend Pittsburgh fans as well. Probably after he finds a new Golden Child to crown as the savior of hockey.

Is it really?

It’s overblown because you’re a Pens fan and its your supposed leader who snubbed Lidstrom, but managed to shake everyone elses hand.

by jryno on Jun 17, 2009 7:40 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Or are you trying to make it a big deal because your captain has such poor sportsmanship that he manages to leave the ice so quickly that Crosby has a chance to shake everyone’s hand except his?

by NaFedaykin on Jun 17, 2009 9:19 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Did you read the article?

Our captain has poor sportsmanship, really? Was it Lidstrom or Crosby, who hacked Maltby at the end of Game 1? Was it Lidstrom or Crosby, who was voted by his peers as the biggest whiner in the NHL? I think you’re in a little bubble there in Pittsburgh that you don’t realize what an idiot Crosby really is.

You nancys are so gay, you lost and still want the limelight, they call people like you drama queens. Get over it, it wasn’t intentional and you know it. Lidstrom needs to quit finding ways into the headlines and enjoy the offseason, YOU LOST STEP OUT OF THE SPOTLIGHT, you talk about a whiner in Crosby? what a bunch of crybabies in your wings who lost and the only thing they can muster to bitch about is someone didn’t shake hands with someone else, how sad.

Guess what

Nobody here gives a damn what you think. You are a troll and an instigator, just like the guys who play for your beloved team. If you don’t like what you are reading, newsflash dipshit…..STOP READING IT!!

I agree with you KDawg

Last time I checked I never heard Lidstrom complain about this, let alone anything else. So, please if you are going to specify that Lidstrom and the Wings are nothing but cry babies, please inject us with an article or source. Now with that, I will provide you with the link to the ESPNEWS video that shows Crosby was voted as the leagues biggest whiner, thats a tall feat considering he’s gonig up against Pronger and the lot.

Oops...forgot this little tidbit from that video...

Jerome Iginla was voted as the leagues best leader, followed by who? Oh, none other than Nick Lidstrom. Maybe next season the Pens can have a cheese and whine night for Crosby, and have violins playing for him after the whistle blows.

I personally liked when Max talbot told Hossa during the hand shake that he picked the wrong team…that should be a new mastercard commercial…just priceless.

I liked what Maltby said to Malkin at the end of game 1 that set off Sid. Read Maltbys lips-“Your Moms borsch sucks.” Ya gotta admit, thats funny!

I thought he changed is mind about saying that.

I think Max thought it better to be gracious winner

Originally posted this in "Heartache in Hockeytown" ...might fit better here

I just read this… All the way down here in my local free paper the "TBT" or Tampa Bay Times. (yes, i’m in FL, originally from MI, still played hockey for 10 yrs. down here tho)

as written: "Nick was waiting and waiting, and crosby didn’t come over to shake his hand. That’s ridiculous, especially as their captain, and make sure you write that I said that" -Detroit Red Wings alternate captain Kris Draper, angered over the initial snub by pitts. "captain" sidney crosby after the pens had won the Cup on friday. Nicklas Lidstrom was upfront, congratulating many of the new champions while waiting for ptts "captain". Crosby eventually skated over to shake hands with the Red Wings, but many had already headed for the dressing room. Detroit forward Johan Franzen and crosby exchanged words and crosby then shook hands with goaltender Chris Osgood and some other Detroit players"

I can’t express enough, especially in words how much this infuriates me. This sums up in a nutshell what I don’t like about the Penguins with a few exceptions. And players like that in sports, in general. Not to mention he’s supposed to be the "face of the league" and blah blah blah. Their is just no room for that crap, PERIOD. Lebron James, much?
Not to mention he was shut down ALL series! AGAIN! including game 7, hah.
What a lil’ sissy girl. Yeah, he’s got talent but it takes more to be a world class player. KEY word there being CLASS. Something he may never know, think playing against Detroit so much, some might have rubbed off by now. CLASS is what Detroit brings year in and year out since the beginning and always will. For example, the fans at game 7.

AND PEN’S FANS WONDER WHY WE CALL HIM CYNDY? …perhaps a little too clever.

C is for CAPTAIN

It’s his JOB as “captain” to lead his team through the handshake. It always has been and hopefully always will. Lidstrom didn’t have any said “brainfart” when he was the first european born CAPTAIN to win the cup. He’s also probably pretty good at it by now, hah.

I hadn’t heard about what Maltby apparently said to Malkin, haha. That’s classic!
I wonder if he actually understood what he said. It was pretty straight up.

Anybody have the youtube link for that?? When was it, game 1?
