Delmore had an offer to return to Europe, but decided to have his agent give the Red Wings a call.
"We just became aware he wanted to play in North American," Red Wings general manager Ken Holland said. "We have a relationship with (Delmore’s agent) Tom Laidlaw (who also represented former Red Wings Dallas Drake and Greg Johnson).
"Tom informed us Andy was interested in remaining in North America." ...
"I was always a fan of Detroit and I know they’re a great organization," the six-foot-one, 200-pound Delmore said. "I’ll go to Grand Rapids and be part of a first-class organization and whatever happens is going to happen."

This is what makes the Wings a quality organization.
Players like this, who want to play for the Wings, I like it. Now, lets get out there and grab another guy…Grier…who wants to play in Detroit.
I like Delmore. And the fact that he contacted us about playing and not the other way around means he is the type of player we need. Forget Hudler, I’ll take Delmore who I see playing 20-30 games in a Wings uniform next season (especially if Lilja’s injury is more severe than everyone thinks). He wants to be here. So does Grier apparently. Bring him in too. Anyone remember Dallas Drake? We drafted the guy, he went to Northern Michigan University (my college, btw), and WANTED to play for the Wings and he gave everything he could in the playoffs for us. Bring in Delmore, bring in Grier. Two players who want to be here and are more likely to give their all than a player like Hudler who no longer wishes to be here.
That was part of Hossa’s problem, I think. He wanted to win, he didn’t want to be a Wing though. That’s the thing about the Wings – our entire organization is built on loyalty. There isn’t another team in the league that can say they have

Damn it. Clicked the post button. Anyways.
There isn’t another team in the league that can say that they have 4 guys who have been cornerstones of their franchise for the last 15 years plus two more guys who have been a part of the franchise for the past 15 seasons minus a few (McCarty and Ozzy). Keep getting players who want to be Wings and we’ll keep winning. That’s how we operate.
