Leino Re-Signs for 2 Years
Some early reports out, per ESPN, indicate that Ville Leino has re-signed for two more years in Detroit.
The deal is reportedly worth $1.6 million over the two years. Leino is the first free agent to re-sign with the Wings as all of the others have left Motown or, in the case of Jiri Hudler, filed for arbitration.
With Hossa, Kopecky, and Samuelsson gone, there is no doubt that Leino will start the year with the big squad. During his 13 games for the Red Wings last year, he turned in 5 goals and 4 assists. Despite being MIA in the goal column during the playoffs, Leino still showed he has great potential and the right skills for the top level.
More on this as it becomes more official and feel free to chime in below on Leino.

Good Work Kenney!!
It’s just like signing Samuellson for 2 years. Good job Holland!! Go Wings
Great news
this kid is the reason the Wings let Sammy walk. Time to see what he can do with a full season, along with Helm and Abdelkader
Losing Leino was easily my biggest worry this free agency season, even more than losing Hudler. They’re comparable players, but you’ll be getting much more bang for your cap buck with Ville. I’m excited to watch this kid for a full season. Especially if he gets quality linemates here and there or a smidge of PP time.
Good work Kenny
Hey, it’s all part of the big picture for the Wings. I too am excited about seeing what Ville does in a full season. He’s certainly got more upside than Sammy does. Get Huds done!
