GameThread: Red Wings vs Capitals

Stay connected for news and updates

Trying to put a pair of shootout losses behind them, the Red Wings head to Washington to face one of the best teams in the Eastern Conference, Alex Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals.

As noted earlier, it'll be Chris Osgood getting the start tonight in lieu of Jimmy Howard. It is Osgood's first start since December 20 against the Chicago Blackhawks.

For the Capitals, they're on fire right now: four goals or more in their last seven games, led by Ovechkin's 30 goals this season (second in the NHL behind Patrick Marleau), and the goaltending of Jose Theodore.

If the game against Chicago Sunday was a gut check, this is part two. Puck drops at 7:00 pm ET. The game is on Fox Sports Detroit and Comcast SportsNet Washington.
