Quick look at the Standings

I just took a brief look at the standings in the NHL and found something pretty interesting....

I'm looking at the East and West Conferences and I saw an interesting stat I should share with you all.

Only four teams in the East have 50 or more points. New Jersey Devils, Washington Capitals, Buffalo Sabres and the Pittsburgh Penguins. While the Carolina Hurricanes being the only team with under 30 points still.

The top eight team in the West have over 50 points. San Jose Sharks are the first team to have 60+ points. Detroit sits in 9th place with 48 points.

Can you see the competitive difference between the two conferences? If the Detroit Red Wings were in the East they would be tied for 6th place with Ottawa.

A lot of people say the West is the tougher conference to play in, and I agree with them. Every point matters in the wild, wild west.
