Coyotes' Shane Doan Suspended 3 Games
Per Darren Dreger Tweet, Coyotes' Captain Shane Doan has been suspended 3 games for this hit on Ducks winger Dan Sexton. As far as I can tell, this is the first suspension levied as a result of the new head shot rule. It also kills one of my BOLD predictions for this season.

If I were to put my thoughts about Colin Campbell in writing
I would have written something very similar to what you put there (aside from what I wrote here about the four contracts the NHL really SHOULD have been reviewing this summer).
Colin Campbell’s idea of discipline is a joke. He should definitely be fired.

If i were to put it into words
The words would be overshadowed by bouts of puking in my mouth and losing control of my sphincter.
I already knew Colin was dumb
But when someone shows just ONE example of how inconsistent he is…wowza. I mean, let’s forget the inprofessional gesture incident and just compare Doan’s hit to Hjalmarsson’s
Hjalmarsson:
(1) Hit a player from behind (penalty, checking from behind)
(2) into the boards hard (penalty, boarding)
(3) on a guy who didn’t even have the puck yet (penalty, interference)
You could have called at least THREE separate penalties on the guy on a dumb hockey hit, and yet he only gets suspended two games. I don’t care what his intent was, its a stupid hit that needs to be punished bare minimum 5 games, especially considering how injured the recipient was.
Doan:
(1) Hit a player (shoulder down, mind you) blindsided late after the puck had left the guy’s stick (penalty, blindisde hit)
I can see one, maybe two penalties you could call on Doan there. I’m not even sure if a hit to the head is the proper call, but it was a bad blindside hit definitely and also a suspendable act. But 3 games? Wow Colin…you’re telling me what Shane did was WORSE than what Hjalmarsson did? In what alternate universe are we in? I’d give that maybe 1-2 games, maybe. Depending on what the refs called on the ice.
In short, yes plz can they fire Colin Campell? And while we’re at it, can the NHL get rid of Bettman too?
Doan's hit was more the focus in the video the NHL sent out about blindside hits
The open ice hits are more dangerous because all of the momentum goes through the head. It pains me to write this, but I think Hjalmarsson was a victim of the kind of call against Kronwall on Havlat a couple years ago. The guy was motionless on the ice and has to be carted off, the refs decide they can’t just let it go.
I understand that the league is cracking down on the blindside hits
but I strongly disagree that Doan’s hit was worse. Again, I’m not saying it wasn’t suspendable, I’m just saying when comparing the two I still think Hjalmarsson’s was worse.
And I’m not sure how you can compare it to Konwall’s hit on Havlat. Hjalmarsson hit the Buffalo player square in the numbers, without the puck (puck not even close to him yet), into the boards. Not nearly the same as the Havlat hit, where Havlat simply got caught with his head down looking at the puck. Same in the sense that he got injured on the play yes, but other than that…
Meh
Blind side hit? Yes.
Late hit? Yes.
Head hit? Not really.
Suspension warranted? Sure, but this sets quite a bar for the rest of the season in terms of what deserves a suspension and how many games, in my opinion.
