The Red Wings are in Denver to finally earn Chris Osgood his 400th victory. Remember, Chris, the team helps he who helps himself. That won't be an easy task though, since the Avs sit atop the NHL in goals per game with 3.43 (the Wings are 3rd at 3.34). Fortunately, their defense makes opposing offenses look almost as good as their scorers do. Their 3.23 goals against per game is only three hundreths of a point better than league-worst Edmonton's. Their power play is 3 percentage points better than ours, but their PK is also very nearly 4 percentage points worse.
Without Dan Cleary and Pavel Datsyuk in the lineup and with Osgood in net, look for Detroit to pay more attention to defense. Jan Mursak will take Cleary's spot in the lineup. On the other side of the sheet, the Avalanche get Milan Hejduk and Cody McLeod (of the clan McLeod) back in their lineup. Chris Stewart remains out of the lineup for the Avs after breaking his hand in a fight on November 28th.
Game plan for tonight: Score goals, don't let them do the same. It's a Monday night Game Thread. Join us below for the fun.
