Is that supposed to be the goal horn?

I haven't seen it either

Just not a movie person. :(

I’ve had Animal House sitting next to my television for months. Never even opened the case.

I know!

I turn on my computer when I get home and all this stuff has already happened. #sadface

But a job, maintaining a house, hobbies, and chatting with friends …

Not enough hours in the day.

She grew up in the northern suburbs

And when she was in HS Pierre Pilote rented a house the next block over, and she would babysit for their kids if his wife Annie went to the games.

Hence, a Blackhawk fan. She left the team after Wirtz drove off everyone, and when she moved to Michigan she started following the Wings (who were very bad at the time).

She mostly cheers for the Wings, but was glad to see Chicago win last year because she had friends who had been waiting decades for that to happen again.

There are SEVERAL (mostly annoying anyway) girls on Twitter...

That have secret accounts, with locked tweets, and require an invite for people to follow them (because, obviously, their shit is WAY important). They use those accounts to basically talk shit about people who have unfollowed their main account (on account of them being fucking annoying anyway).

my bile sometimes spills out far beyond a tweet

It’s why I adore the Twitlonger on my UberTwitter. :)

I just hate those trashy little fuckbaits so much.

Those girls are so rare at Tech, I think I'm lucky.

They’re just too stupid to even have a chance at succeeding there. (Plus the athletes never go anywhere, so it’s not worth chasing them.)

I like that kid a lot. He was drafted this past June when I was covering it for WIM. Nice enough dude.

by Michael Petrella on Dec 6, 2010 8:43 PM CST up reply actions

Just checking.

If nobody had said anything after that first tweet I would’ve shut up so I wanted to make sure you saw it.

I liked him too. He’s going to be (already is at WCHA level) an impressive player, I think.

by crperreau on Dec 6, 2010 8:44 PM CST up reply actions

Yup.

I like the track he’s taking… he’ll be a slow-pro. USHL, then collegiate, then probably the AHL before the NHL. Just like my buddy Dave Moss who is a MORE than capable NHLer, but took a while to get there.

by Michael Petrella on Dec 6, 2010 8:45 PM CST up reply actions

What people don't know about hockey is this:

The jump in talent between the ranks is ABSURD.

I.E. the lowest rung NHLer is STILL significantly better than the top AHLer.

AHL > College.

College > USHL.

And so on…

When a player like Michael Nylander get sent down to the AHL, it’s not even fair. The game comes so easily to them, in comparison, and the gap in talent is just ridiculous. He’s going to be a big fish in a medium sized pond, and that bodes VERY well for the next level up.

by Michael Petrella on Dec 6, 2010 8:49 PM CST up reply actions   1 recs

Another example

I played collegiate hockey, in Division II. It’s very good hockey… filled with very good hockey players (NATCH). We played one pair of games against a D-III team, and a pair of games against a D-I team.

We kicked the everloving HELL out of the D-III team. As in, it wasn’t even fun. The final scores were like 14-1 and 16-0 or something (Guess who STILL didn’t score!)

In the D-I games, we got ROCKED, nearly laughed off of the ice. There’s a reason people play at certain levels and why the games are (usually) closely contested. It takes twenty years of evaluation to know where you fall, and you’ll never be satisfied being lower than where you belong.

A guy like me? I almost did fucking backflips to make the D-II team. I was not recruited. I was given up on, mostly because of my size, and I had pissed away so many opportunities that I was — in no way — “above” playing an “inferior” hockey.

by Michael Petrella on Dec 6, 2010 8:53 PM CST up reply actions

Amen

My in-laws have season tickets to the local AHL team, and a few years ago, I went to one of their games and the next night went to see the Hawks. The biggest difference is the speed; the AHL guys just can’t keep up at the NHL level.

by Amerinadian on Dec 6, 2010 8:51 PM CST up reply actions

Not even close.

And there’s two things that happen to guys on the cusp:

A) They get called up, thrive with the opportunity, and don’t go back down. See: Helm, Darren.

B) They get called up, struggle a bit, go back down and TEAR THE ROOF OFF.

There’s RARELY an in between.

by Michael Petrella on Dec 6, 2010 8:55 PM CST up reply actions

It's the Versus microphones

Jimmy Howard hits the posts with his stick to check his angles when the puck is coming back toward the Wings’ end. Versus constantly has mics that pick that noise up. It’s goddamn annoying.

No shit.

There aren’t enough goals in a game to call back the ones that are actually good. They gotta let those plays go, they can always say there was intent to blow if it really does take awhile for the play to happen, but we’re getting screwed cause the refs are calling the play the second it hits the goalie.

by Elfuego51 on Dec 6, 2010 8:47 PM CST up reply actions

Waved off goals in general suck. I know we had a string of 4-5 games (in a row) where we had a goal waved off.

As a Wing fan, I have no problems with this

The Wings are still trying to come back, and have the offense to get it done. It’s up to the Wings to stop them from scoring.
