Game Thread: Finland vs. Sweden
Comments seemed to be getting a little slow so here's a clean slate for you all to comment during the game.
Recycled preview:
Finland vs. Sweden, 12:00 a.m. ET
Nothing like this age-old rivalry between the Finns and Swedes. The Finns might have the edge this year though as the Swedes are struggling against the same teams that Finland is blowing out. It's a shame that a game this good comes on so late (in the Detroit timezone at least) and consider it involves 5 of the Red Wings sent to the Olympics, it's a good game to watch all the Detroit stars. Nevertheless, the game goes on regardless of timezone and should be one heck of a game.
Sweden takes on long-time rival Finland in the last game of a day full of excellent games. Henrik Zetterberg, Nicklas Lidstrom, Niklas Kronwall and Johan Franzen join Team Sweden as they face Valtteri Filppula and Finland.
Puck drops at 12:00 a.m. ET so get your coffee and energy drinks ready and enjoy the game!

aahhhh ...
That fresh new thread smell.
Let’s see how long I can stay up for the late game. If it’s as close as the other two today it will be easier.

the giant blob is approaching
Oh, no! Scary Doppler radar picture!
My area is predicted to have 4 to 6 inches by evening, so hopefully I won’t have to shovel myself out to go to work. It’s easier if I park across the street and then clear out my driveway so I can park after work.

I'd have to pay someone
And usually it isn’t a problem – that’s why I don’t have a snowblower. The first time I would have needed it was last week, because the rest of the time it was only a couple inches at a time at most.
If it is too piled up I just call in to work and let them know it will take me a little while to dig out.

Am I supposed to be rooting for the Swedes?
Maybe I should root for the Finns. Because Filppula must feel lonely.
Oh well, I’ll just root for the Detroit players. To Hell with the results.
I'm torn, too
I like Nick and Nik and Hank and Mule very much, but I also like Filppula – and Sweden did win gold last Olympics …
I want it to be a good game. The other two wound up the way I wanted, so I can’t complain.

The problems of a late game
I’m craving for snacks. And I know I’m not actually THAT hungry. But I still want something.
My indulgence was a cookie and a glass of milk. Not good for me, but I don’t care, at least not right now.

my mom loves those
But she can’t eat potato chips at all because it makes her blood pressure skyrocket, and she can eat sun chips when she wants something crunchy.

Unfortunately I'm in a school building
I might have to move after the first two periods because this building closes at 2am…
Bettman is severely annoying me right now. Please stop talking.

I had mine open

I could easily down a box of the Samoas or Tagalogs (peanut butter patties)
I can’t keep things like cookies, crackers, or chips around the house. I will just eat until I am sick.

They said Zetterberg and then Filppula went and hit someone, and I thought for a second...
But no, he took a run on Forsberg, not Hank

See how both teams are wearing their dark jerseys?
NHL should let the teams do that sometimes. Red v. Blue would be awesome.
remember that game
where the Wings had to go change jerseys? Mick was all about the Red vs. Blue matchup before that happened.

i find it weird out of all the red wings in the olympics
raffy is one showing up.
draft micah johnson
maybe he just wanted to save it.
once the olympics are done he will be back to his old self…..hopefully

I really think
the Wings will put it together after the Olympics. It seems like they have been a big distraction for them, especially with Babs involved.

I wonder how much
Is the pressure on the players, and how much is Babcock making coaching decisions for political reasons. I can’t even imagine how much pressure there is on him to play certain players or not.

I sure hope so
Michigan is probably going to end the NCAA tournament appearance streak at 19, not make this year’s, so I really need the Wings to lift me up.
All of the Wings have represented
Pav and his awesome d plus a goal
Flip has a goal
Mule has a goal
Lids and Kronner paired together= awesome d.
i wasnt meaning the havent
just out of everyone who expected raffy to have what 4 goals 1 assist
draft micah johnson
hopefully he brings that scoring touch with him

I think they might
Because they have all 9 points available, and if the other teams have fewer than that …
I’m not sure though.
"While there's life, there's hope." --Cicero

based on the standings
both Sweden and Finland have 6 points. By my math (which really can’t ever be trusted), if they go into OT and fail to earn 3 points, the US has the #1 seed. But I could be wrong. Is it just a shootout that gives a 2/1 split?
Check out Detroit4Lyfe
by handsomerob1 on Feb 21, 2010 11:38 PM CST up reply actions
Actually
As long as Sweden wins by less than 6, we should be ok.
Check out Detroit4Lyfe
by handsomerob1 on Feb 21, 2010 11:39 PM CST up reply actions
I think you're right
The tiebreaker is goals differential I think so if Finland wins in regulation they get 1 seed because they have kicked major power play butt. Otherwise the US is number 1.
"While there's life, there's hope." --Cicero
USA! USA! USA! USA!
Both are +9
going into this last game. So currently, Finland is +8, but that doesn’t matter since they’re losing. Sweden is only +4, so a 6-goal win gives them the #1 seed. Probably won’t happen, so let’s go Sweden!

The problem is, I've been relatively asthma free in recent years
Just had a bad flare up this weekend, starting after doing indoor ultimate frisbee on Thursday. At least I managed to locate one of those suckers, otherwise I would have been in really bad shape.
Hanging out at a friend’s house who has cats yesterday didn’t help matters, the allergy on top of the base wheeziness really messed me up today.
