Kovalchuk dealt to the Devils
The biggest name on the market at this year's trade deadline got dealt tonight, as Ilya Kovalchuk was traded to the New Jersey Devils just under a month before the deadline is set to hit. The Thrashers traded him and Anssi Salmela for Johnny Oduya, forwards Niclas Bergfors and Patrice Cormier, and a first round draft pick. They will also swap second round picks this year.
I know that a few weeks ago, Winging It had a post asking what we would be willing to give up for one of the best scorers in the league. We all knew we wouldn't get him, but we all could dream of a Zetterberg, Datsyuk, Kovalchuk frontline, right? I personally did not see the Devils getting him, but it is a dangerous acquisition. They are already one of the top defensive teams in the league (anyone would be with Brodeur in net), and now they add a guy who could net 50 a season if he wanted.
Did anyone see the Devils getting him? Anyone else think that the Thrashers got robbed and the Devils made out like bandits?
