Game Thread: Wild vs. Red Wings

Minnesota Wild at Detroit Red Wings, Mar 11, 2010 6:30 PM CST

The Red Wings try to put the third-period giveaway to the Flames in their rear mirror as they face the Minnesota Wild tonight at Joe Louis Arena.

The Wild come in after losing to Florida 3-2 on Tuesday night: a bizarre game that saw Minnesota held to only 11 shots in the game, but still held a two-goal lead that they proceeded to give up.

The teams have split the season series at a game apiece, with both games in Minnesota. Tonight's game is on NHL Network in the US, Fox Sports Detroit and Fox Sports North. Faceoff is 7:30 pm. Comment away below.

I will be

Cutting up a Marian Hossa flag. And playing around with tulle, pipecleaners, and a feather boa that I took apart. Creating by FAR the cheesiest, most horrible “art” “project” I have ever done – at least on purpose, anyway.

I feel as though I should apologize profusely for the indignities I am about to perpetrate upon his image, because I really do like Hossa. Fortunately he will never see it, so I don’t need to worry. :D

I really like him too.

But if it gives us good mojo/juju, I’ll take it!

true

Besides, it’s just a stupid flag, not him – that would be messy, and not “oh, no, I spilled the paint!” messy either.

It is a really, really cheesy flag too.

I had to go with tulle

Lola, one of the commentors at A2Y, started calling him “the eternal bridesmaid” after the Olympics – and when I saw the tulle in not only white, but also red and black – Chicago colors! – I had to work with it. HAD too.

And with the Thrashers, Wings, and Hawks, there are a lot of feathers in his career.

The cheesy symbolism just flows like a river.

I like how Steve Yzerman has the most points in a season...

…by anyone not named Wayne Gretzky or Mario Lemieux.

by breakaway on Mar 11, 2010 8:54 PM CST reply actions

very nice display of hands

Went backhand to forehand, slipped the puck between the legs of the Wild defenseman and then through Harding’s legs as well. Not a blast of a shot, but all touch on that goal.

God it’s great to have Mule back. What a hockey player.

If he hadn’t gotten hurt after just three games, even with all the other injuries, I think Detroit would be in a solid playoff position – not high, I don’t think, not with all the other injuries, but they would give every impression of staying in the top eight instead of falling out at any second.

I’ve got a white Lidstrom jersey (which I managed to get spaghetti sauce out of after a friend accidentally flung a meatball at me haha), but I love the color red so I’m thinking of getting a red Zetterberg one. I think the red ones are nice.

OTT CAL Update

They had to try three pieces of glass before they could find one that worked.

by joehass on Mar 11, 2010 9:03 PM CST reply actions

They must have broken a really strange-shaped piece. Because I always thought as long as glass was clear, it worked.

And it’s almost always really bad, with one decent to excellent team.

They get all these high draft picks because the teams stink, but can’t put together teams around them ever.

by breakaway on Mar 11, 2010 9:15 PM CST up reply actions

Zetterberg isn’t really my type, although I can see the appeal for some.

I’d have picked Franzen. Two goals is great – although Zetterberg did have a very strong game, especially compared to the previous games. And given Howard kudos for managing to stay awake while not much was going on around him at times and only giving up a goal deflected off his own guy’s skate, or it would have been a shutout.
