Detroit comes into Edmonton tonight following a three game win streak. The Wings will look to make it four straight after some time off this week following Monday's 2-1 win over Calgary. Edmonton has lost 5 straight games and is practically sprinting to an early off-season. Detroit looks to gain more ground on Calgary (facing San Jose) with a win tonight. Jimmy Howard starts his 17th straight game in net for the Red Wings while Devan Dubnyk is looking for his first win of the season as an Oiler.
Unfortunately, I won't be able to join you all for the game thread but you've done spectacular with out us at time so hop right in and talk it up between yourselves!
Puck drops at 9:30 p.m. ET and will air on FS-Detroit. Comment below and as always, GO WINGS!

FIRST!!!111!
Sorry, I’ve never been able to do that and thought I’d take the opportunity here.
Good news — MTV loosened the shackles and I got the hell out of dodge at a reasonable time so I’m thinking I’ll stick around and make fun of Tuzzi with y’all.

Watching the CCHA semi-finals. Northern Michigan beat Ferris State 5-4 in overtime and currently Michigan and Miami-Ohio playing. 1-0 Michigan at the end of first.
The two guys that played goal on my team in college were (and presumably still are) a special breed of crazy. College hockey is no joke, and those kids were just a little off…

Hockeytown USA
Funny story from CCHA
Apparently Michigan’s Hunwick (back up goalie who has gone 5-1 in his last six games) keeps developing new superstitions. His latest superstition is that he MUST have a new stick for every game. Because he’s a goalie, his requests are accommodated. Other teammates are jealous because their similar requests are often denied.
It just reminded me of how frequently the sticks break in NHL games… and how many they go through.
New Mexico State surges ahead 62-59!

The way to win a game, Red Wings style
Come out as if you just finished a keg on your own.
Take fifty foot shots into a goalie’s chest, with a completely clear lane.
Proceed to do nothing until you realize that you might be able to turn this into a dramatic, come-from-behind victory.

Lidstrom penalty.
We’ve hit rock bottom.
by eight_legged_freaks on Mar 19, 2010 9:05 PM CDT reply actions
I said this at 8:30 pm
Playing a team in dead last with a goalie who has never won after several days off to rest and practice. I would not be surprised at all if the stupid Red Wings actually come out flat, fall behind by two goals, and then score a late one in a flurry before giving up an empty-netter to lose 3-1. It would be just like them this year.
And then it would be just like San Jose to play like distracted crap and lose to Calgary giving the Flames a one-point edge in the eighth spot. I can see that happening, too.
And then Bruce the astronomer gave me a hard time because I sounded less hopeful than my tagline. I know my team well enough to know when they will suck with a high level of confidence.
"While there's life, there's hope." --Cicero
Hey, I predicted a loss on my blog this morning.
It is the perfect storm of absolute suck.
by eight_legged_freaks on Mar 19, 2010 9:08 PM CDT up reply actions
Did you predict the score, though? We need a tiebreaker for best “prognisticator of sucking!”
"While there's life, there's hope." --Cicero
No, in fact, I tried to stay positive, and middle-ground
and not actually say anything at all one way or the other.
Because if I was confident, we lose, and if I wasn’t, we still lose.
That’s the way it goes with these here Wings.

Which part of predicting a loss is positive?
by Michael Petrella on Mar 19, 2010 9:11 PM CDT up reply actions
I misspoke. I started off by saying the Wings will suck blah blah blah, but then I said what amounts to: “But, they COULD be good, so you never know…”
by eight_legged_freaks on Mar 19, 2010 9:12 PM CDT up reply actions
Actually, that was a hell of a prediction, Baroque, ’cept for who scored when the net was empty. You sure got the early 2-0 lead, er, deficit part right, the late flurry part right, and your shootout prediction was spot on as well. As was your Sharks v Flames call. Props for prognostication!

Calgary is the same
the barely cheer unless that annoying dog pound son the drum, people are much better at the joe.
Edmonton has been very bad this year.
A lot of the season ticket holders have been giving away tickets. It’s been hard to watch since it was clear that the team was tanking for a high draft pick.
The crowds are pretty loud if their spirits haven’t been broken, poor things.

by Michael Petrella on Mar 19, 2010 10:28 PM CDT up reply actions
true
But the last few years have been really, REALLY bad, and they have a hard time seeing any glimmers of competence from management. Or the prospects. Or getting free agents to come to Edmonton (and free agents that will really help, not the big expensive superstar white whales that their front office gets fixated on to the point of letting useful players like Curtis Glencross slip through their fingers because they didn’t even bother to return his phone calls).
"While there's life, there's hope." --Cicero
True...
They do get a bum wrap up there. I wonder what the deal is — internally — that turns players off.
by Michael Petrella on Mar 19, 2010 10:32 PM CDT up reply actions
not sure
I mean, it isn’t as though Calgary is on the beach with palm trees, and they have an easier time filling holes logically. On Lowetide there is a lot of talk about the current management just being puppets for the same Good Old Boys that have always been there, that the front office has a culture that favors famous names and connections with the history of the team over mundane things like “competence.”
It sounds more than anything like a typical business story of a company being mismanaged because they didn’t keep up with the times and hired people based on being the son of a fraternity brother instead of being the best person for the job.

All right, can I have a quick explanation?
I saw early on the thread where it was mentioned “Eaves hurt now?” and then he scored, now he’s not returning. What’s up? Two different instances, or is he hurting bad enough he ended up leaving even after scoring?
(This is what happens when you miss the first half of the game)
They said "upper body"
But I immediately assumed it was like an ankle or something. It was sore, so he took his skate off and it blew up.

Shoot outs are the Red Wing's enemy
It’s not really fair, if we would have played a full OT we would have won… A lot of our shoot out losses would have been like that too…
I don’t care if they are exciting, I hate shoot outs. If they add them to the playoffs (like the freakin’ olympics .) then I will stop watching the NHL. Bettman sucks!
