The Wings take on Vancouver at Joe Louis Arena tonight (7:30 p.m. ET) in attempt to string together a couple of points post-Olympic break. Speaking of Olympics, the gold medalist goalie Roberto Luongo starts in net tonight for Vancouver while the Wings Jimmy Howard will be in the blue paint.
Detroit looked impressive considering the time off during the Olympics in their 3-2 win over the Colorado Avalanche. The Wings were connecting on a lot of passes and making good paths to the net. For Detroit to be successful again they need to control the puck and tempo while trying to make space in the middle of the ice for the attack.
Game is at 7:30 p.m. and will air on the NHL Network (picking up the hometown FS-Detroit feed) and TSN.

Did anyone else see the video of Ryan Miller getting cheered in Pittsburgh and Crosby getting somewhat booed? It’s pretty funny. Miller looks shocked when they show him waving to the crowd.

I am unfortunately going to miss the majority of the game. I have co-ed volleyball at 8:30 and am going out afterwards to celebrate my 24th birthday. Not sure where yet, but most likely a place with drinks of the alcoholic variety.

Indeed. March Madness is always fun. My Hokies were a lock for the tourney but have lost like 3 in a row so that’s not good.
I think Franzen coming back is huge for this team.

Oh, haha. Thought you were saying mid 20’s is a normal age for gray hair. I only know one other person with any type of gray hair/balding in his 20s. Poor guy. Though at least Miler is gray and not bald, like Getzlaf.

I figured now is a good time to drop some news in the WIM thread. Sadly, this is probably my last game in the game threads for a little while… at least for the rest of March. I’m starting up a new gig at MTV on Monday, and I’ll be DVRing the hell out of games, unlikely to get home before 8:30 most days…
The project is very exciting, but I’ll miss you guys and gals. This has literally become one of my favorite things to do during the games…

What a lousy game
Sorry I wasn’t here with ya’ll. It’s been awhile. Hope to be around for the next one. And hopefully the Wings will play like they realize they need to win to make the playoffs.
On the bright side
at least they lost the game in the 2nd period so the bitterness and disappointment is long gone by now.
