Coming off an emotionally rewarding 5-4 victory against the Chicago Blackhawks, the Detroit Red Wings host their primary competition for the final playoff position, the Calgary Flames.
The Flames come in having beaten the Minnesota Wild 5-2 on Jarome Iginla's hat trick. Sitting one point behind the Red Wings, the Flames are matching the Red Wings stride for stride. Rene Bourque has five points in the last two games.
Meanwhile, the Red Wings have taken off since the Olympic break, going 5-1. With everyone back (with the possible exception of Todd Bertuzzi, who left in the second on Sunday), the Red Wings appear to be as back as they're going to be.
This is the third game of the season series: the teams have split the first two, with the road team winning both games. Puck drop is at 7:00 pm. Comment away below.

All of a sudden my bet with Andy looks pretty safe. TAKE THAT, DECEMBER!

One thing I don't really understand
Why are some teams named after states while others are named after cities?
Ex: Colorado Avalanche instead of Denver Avalanche, etc.

Two states. Also New England Patriots.
Maybe marketing thing, to try to appeal to a larger area, or maybe the name was chosen before the city for the arena was completely nailed down, so they were hedging their bets. Or maybe the people coming up with names just thought it sounded better.

my local A baseball team
Is the Great Lakes Loons – partly to appeal to a wider area. Although the fans in this town are fantastic – the crowds in their playoff games last season were unbelievable and LOUD. And the way the playoffs were set up, you didn’t even know when the game was or where until 24 hours before the start – and there was still a packed stadium.
I was at the clinching regular season game, so I ran to the box office on my way home and grabbed my playoff tickets. :)

Last season was fantastic. Two players were league co-MVPs and we came within a game of advancing to the final series (and considering how easily the opponent was taken care of, we would have killed them).

guess I never thought of it as a “let us go” phrase, since the fans are yelling for the team to do something, but it works in the sense that the fan feels like the team is an extension of themselves.

If they weren’t so injured and bad early in the season, it wouldn’t matter if the team won two and then lost one because they wouldn’t be on the edge. Everything is magnified by their precarious position.

I mean, do they want to play together as a group, or do they want to flame out and be torn apart in the off-season. It’s their choice, but right now, there are a few choice guys who need to earn their keep.
