Howard not a Vezina finalist
Looks like everyone being hopeful for Jimmy Howard stealing Brodeur's nomination has been blown to pieces. The two players most felt were locks, Ryan Miller of the Buffalo Sabres, and the current thorn in our side, Ilya Bryzgalov of the Phoenix Coyotes, are finalists as is Martin Brodeur of the New Jersey Devils.
No surprises, really. While it would have been great to see him get nominated, I never thought it was realistic. He had an outside shot, sure, but Miller and Bryzgalov were damn near perfect in net this year, and Brodeur had an average season (which is better than 99% of the best seasons of other goalies)

I agree
I would have pegged Howard at 4th or 5th in the NHL, but not in the top 3. Brodeur wasn’t fantastic, but he’s getting sentimental votes for breaking records this year IMO.
Brodeur still managed 45 wins this season, his second most ever. He also had his best save percentage in 5 years (not including last year where he didn’t see much time due to injury), and the third best goals against in the league, behind only Rask and Miller. Playing wise, Brodeur had an average season for himself (which, like I said, is better than anything 99% of the league will ever be able to do), but still killed it in the stat columns.

Like I said, Brodeur wasn't fantastic by his own standards
neither was Lidstrom, but he deserved a Norris nomination.
