Game Thread: Coyotes vs. Red Wings Game 6
Phoenix Coyotes at Detroit Red Wings, Apr 25, 2010 1:00 PM CDT
The Detroit Red Wings return to Joe Louis Arena with an opportunity to eliminate the Phoenix Coyotes from the NHL Playoffs.
After scoring two goals in 68 seconds on Friday night, Detroit cruised to a 4-1 win and a 3-2 lead in the series. Ilya Bryzgalov has looked mortal in the last two games, and for the Coyotes to return to Arizona, he's going to have to bring his a-game to Civic Center Drive.
Meanwhile, the Red Wings need to keep the pressure. Darren Helm has had a nice physical presence, but he's a -4 with only 4 shots in the entire series.
Tha announced puck drop is 2:00 pm. The game is on NBC and TSN. Please follow along below.

I am so nervous.
Glad I’m not there, actually – I’d probably puke.

I feel nervous too. So I’m spending my next 30 minutes bragging to my friends about how I’m going to have a red, stuffed playoff octopus with a tin foil hat!
haha
And your friends are all like, “yeah, whatEVER.”

One guy said, “grow up,” mockingly, but whatever. I’m not really a girlycutsyomglove person but it’s a freakin’ octopus, dammit! RED!
if he's like the guys I knew in college
He mocks in public, but privately thinks it’s pretty cool. :)

He's a Wings fan, so I know inside he thinks it's cool
I’m going to name it RED, both after the color and beloved coach Red Berenson.
Awww, how cute!
I’ll get Red to you in the mail this week sometime.

Again, thank you so much. Whenever you come to metro Detroit, I owe you a drink. I’m a poor student but I think I can manage to buy a drink for such a magnificent present… I’m going to dream about it, seriously.
Actually, you live in Michigan
Where do you live in Michigan anyways? I hope to see you at H2H2 at the latest! I’m so going next year.

Finish off the Yotes in 6 today
Can’t afford to travel again and have to play them in their house for game 6.
Game 7*
I have two exams the next day, and watching a 10PM game will be bad. For my sleep, and for my mental health…
Won't be here for the game thread
Will be at a bar to catch the game before I go to a concert. I really hate schedule conflicts. I will be missing the third period, which is usually the most fun! LET’S GO RED WINGS!

hopefully you’ll be celebrating a Wings victory!

Let's go Wings
Nervous, but feeling fairly confident. If our D keeps it up I think we’ll be ok.
Looking forward to the break from studying for finals anyway
nah
watching basketball cuz they start super super early. and go wings and good luck! cuz i won’t be here during the game since i’m apparently bad luck
NBC sucks

Game time decision they say
I hate him but he sure is passionate. As you can tell by the DoanFace. Will we be able to goon it up though, if he just got back from injury? Whatever, back to notecards.
if he's still that iffy for an elimination game
He can’t be in too good a shape. One good clean check from Abdelkader or Helm and that shoulder might force him out of the game.

I’ll miss third period due to schedule conflict, but hope to come back and see a winning recap. Have fun!
Hey all
word is that Maltby, Williams, and May are all gone after this season to bring back Happy Hudler. I’ll try to find a link.
wow
I wonder if Malts will just hang em up.

I shall not miss Willy or May. Is Malts to retire?
by Krononymous on Apr 25, 2010 12:54 PM CDT up reply actions
might be
His shoulder was pretty bad, I guess.
If they can squeeze him in at a minimal salary, and if he doesn’t mind spending time in Grand Rapids and playing a minor role on the team, he might be back.

I hope they're not just kicking him to the curb
that seems very un-Red-Wing-like
by Rob Rogacki on Apr 25, 2010 12:56 PM CDT up reply actions
doubt it
That’s why I think if he is okay with a reduced role, PROVIDED that his shoulder rehab permits, he might – MIGHT – be back, just for one more year while they break in more youngsters.

Same
Willy is ok, but more of a “tweener.” Not physical enough for the bottom two lines, not skilled enough for the top two lines. May needs to retire.

Even ESPN said they like our chances competing this year with all the pick ups and trades we’ve made.

i mean we thought we would do better last draft, this is obviously more constructive, but we didnt really do much last time around. we’ll def be more constructed this year, but i dont wanna get my hopes up TOO much

But it is always tougher to get the first one … once you have that the ball starts rolling and momentum can catch fire. I am very excited to see this team next year.

Well im glad the our 3rd line came to play a hockey game tonight...
too bad the rest of the team didnt.
What has happened today?
The Wings came out with fire, draw 3 PPs in a row including a full minute of 5-on-3, yet found themselves down 1-0 (can we say bad omen???). Phoenix gets a nice deflection to go up 2-0, but the Wings seemed to respond well with the Stuart goal. But after that…what happened? Bad luck, bad bounces? I just can’t put my finger on it…but whatever it is it isn’t good enough!
Yeah, it's quite maddening.
Especially when the shorty you give up is a horrible turnover that should never happen, and a weak 5-hole goal that Jimmy needs to stop.
Jimmy needs to step up...
I know most of those would be really tough to stop, but he did it in game 4 and for the most part in game 5.

5-4 wings regulation win. it’s gonna happen.
im normally a very confident red wing fan...
but if we loose this game, i dont think were gonna advance. i hope im wrong.
I don't like these slapshots from way out...
They won’t go in… Especially if they don’t hit the net.
DET PENALTY: Zetterberg (2-Tripping) 3:35
Phoenix Power Play Playoffs: 2/4, 5 shots, 3:42/5:56 attack zone
its like game 6 of the finals last year....
We have the chance to eliminate…but we play like shit instead
Hey Wings fans. Looks like you’re headed for Game 7. Doesn’t seem to be your day today, for sure.
Oh man, this is a slow feed. Any chance of opening a third period thread?

Wings just suck in the afternoon
I think they have lost every single home afternoon game this season, every single one.

Well he deserved one for that late, underhanded punch. That was cheap.

Are you guys reduced to cheering for injuries? That’s pretty lame.

Personally, I wasn't 'rooting' for injuries
Morris with that late crap on Abdelkader really irritated me
Yeah, I’m with you on that. Like i said above, it was cheap

Coyotes already missing their best player. How much help do you need?

Duh. :)

You may have a point. Maybe Doan is “only” their best skater. He’s been the face of the franchise for a long time. To this neutral, it kinda sucks that he got hurt during the Coyotes’ first playoff appearance in many years.

ill see you guys tuesday. hopefully they will play like they want to win something

probably okay, I think
He hasn’t had more than one bad game at a time, and the defense has let him down in a big way. If they play better as a team, he’ll be fine.

I'm still confused about this game.
I felt like this one of our best efforts the whole series and we’re getting whomped.
It's official
I think the Wings are cursed when it comes to weekend day games on NBC. They came out hard to start today, but it quickly came apparent that Phoenix would get all the bounces today.
that just pisses me off
i would half understand if THEY were down 5-1, but for a legal hit, that shit was just uncalled for
I'm out of here.
Thread was kind of hostile today, that coupled with a loss makes me upset. See you guys for Game 7. I’ll still be watching the game, just don’t think I can handle being here anymore.

Mkay...so, game 7?
I see it as the Wings have already won in Phoenix twice, why not one more time? They generally bounce back after bad games like today…it’s not the route anyone would like to take but this series ain’t over yet. (Just trying to remain optimistic)
Oh whatever?
We don’t need no stink in’ goals!
That crossed all the way

That's pitiful from the fans leaving early
I know its a bad game but they dont know that they’re going to see the team again this year. Stay the extra 20 minutes.
1991? When did Gretzky leave Edmonton?
I didn’t think he was around for the 190 Cup
Official BYB Juju Consultant...now accepting rally creature applications!
Gretzky left Edmonton in 1988. The 7-game series between the Jets and Oilers was in 1990. And the ’yotes played at least one Game 7 in Phoenix, losing to the Blues 1-0 in OT in G7 in 1999.
