Well, this is certainly an upgrade from the old place.
This is my first post here on SB Nation as a full time author. Many of you already know me from my other blog, Hockeytown USA, and from my presence in the Game Threads here on Winging it in Motown.
Last week, Casey asked me if I would be interested in joining the staff at WIM, and I emphatically said yes. As a fledgling journalism student commuting from Saginaw to Central Michigan University, I found it difficult to find a place where I could practice my writing. I finally found that platform four months ago when I started Hockeytown USA.
I never expected much when I started HT USA. I figured a few people would read it here and there and nothing much would come of it. Then WIM added me to their blogroll. Soon other sites did the same. Hockeytown USA had 100 visitors in its' first month of existence; since then it has ballooned to just under 5,000 total hits. To say I was surprised would be an understatement.
So now I'm here and it's time to start all over again, and I'm not really sure where to go from here. But, I'm sure we'll all work that out over time.
One thing that I can promise you is that not much will change here at WIM in terms of style with my presence. Casey and the gang run a very classy operation over here, and I do not intend to change that. I won't be turning WIM into an f-bomb parade, as is the case with some other blogs out there, although I won't name names.
I am a Red Wings fan first and foremost, and that will be reflected in the majority of my writing. So if you're a fan of an opposing team, be warned that I am a homer and there will be things you will disagree with. I hope that when that time comes we can keep it professional here with logical arguments, instead of a big swear fest that provides no real value to the discussion.
All this leaves one question, at least in my mind: What is the future of Hockeytown USA? The honest answer right now is I don't know. I'm going to be learning as I go here, and Hockeytown USA may very well fade to the background. If you're used to my stuff at HT USA, you will not notice any changes here at WIM. I will always try to carry myself in a professional manner here, like I would at any job in journalism.
So with that, I'll shut up and conclude my little meet and greet. Thank you to everyone for welcoming me into your little world here at SB Nation.
