Holmstrom reportedly close to extension with Red Wings
Multiple sources have reported that goaltender pest Tomas Holmstrom is nearing a return to the Red Wings for two more seasons.
Ansar Khan of MLive speculated that Detroit was close to getting Holmstrom back in a Winged Wheel:
"I'm sure we're going to get a deal done," Howard Gourwitz, Holmstrom's agent, said. "We're looking at a two-year term, and so are the Red Wings. I think we have an agreement in concept. We're very close."
Fox Sports Detroit's Jennifer Hammond and The Bill Waters Show co-host Greg Brady both tweeted that Holmstrom re-signed with the Red Wings, and for slightly less money than his current $2.25 million deal. Per Brady:
Red Wings sign Holmstrom. Tomas Holmstrom's cap hit for a 2 year deal is 1.875M/ year.
If any of this holds true, it will work wonders for the Red Wings' cap issues. At just under $2 million, Holmstrom's cap hit will leave plenty of room to sign UFA Todd Bertuzzi and RFA's Justin Abdelkader, Darren Helm, Patrick Eaves and Drew Miller to deals for next year.
GM Ken Holland looks to continue a successful week by signing Holmstrom. Earlier this week he got Nicklas Lidstrom to take a slight paycut to give Detroit more cap room, and it wouldn't be much of a surprise if Holmstrom has followed his countryman's example.

Good news about Homer
Good to hear that Homer is almost back in the fold and at a lower cap hit than last year. It may not be a lot, but every little bit helps. It just wouldn’t be the same without Homer in his office.
Agreed
The guys want to win and will do anything to make that happen. Taking less money could be hard for some but not these guys. They will have enough money after they sign the guys they have to go and get another piece a role player who will help energize the team on the ice. I look forward to next year. I cant wait to see what Brendan Smith has. He is going to be the next Nick Lidstrom but me saying that is an understatement. I dont think anyone could ever be as good as Nick. What would be interesting is if Kovalchuk pulled a Hossa and signed with the Wings for less money for a year then become a free agent next year. If Lidstrom decides to call it a career after this year which I dont think he will but if he does there is the money to sign Kovalchuk long term. If guys really care about winning they will follow the example set by pretty much all the Wings players and take less money to win.
good ishh

Well
Justin Bieber was given a chance to touch and lift the Cup…
Now I don’t care who wins it this year as long as I know that someone on the team that we hate is raising the same thing that they allowed Bieber to touch. I bet that singer doesn’t even know what Hockey even means
