Wings sign Meech to one-year deal
The Red Wings have re-signed defenseman Derek Meech to a one-year deal worth $500,000. The good thing about this signing is that they have another defenseman/forward under contract for dirt cheap and it really doesn't hurt their chances of bringing in other players.
Meech will need to earn his spot on the team or this signing is likely just an unnecessary insurance step for the team at the moment.

I'm not a fan of this signing
I understand its for cheap but that money could have gone to help sign someone else, like Helm, Abdelkader, or a gritty defenseman. Plus he takes p another roster spot.

I think you
have to fill the holes as cheaply as possible. Im up in the air.. i kind of agree though.
It's possible
that he was signed for this cheap of a rate to make it easier to trade him once training camp opens. It’s probably easier to move a minimum salary player rather than one making much more. Might not get much for him, but it would be one less body to worry about.
