Wings sign Meech to one-year deal

The Red Wings have re-signed defenseman Derek Meech to a one-year deal worth $500,000. The good thing about this signing is that they have another defenseman/forward under contract for dirt cheap and it really doesn't hurt their chances of bringing in other players. Meech will need to earn his spot on the team or this signing is likely just an unnecessary insurance step for the team at the moment.
