Patrick Eaves inks new deal with Detroit
Forward Patrick Eaves has signed a new contract with the Red Wings and will return for the 2009-2010 season. In his first season with the Red Wings, Eaves put up 12 goals and 10 assists while providing valuable penalty killing minutes.
The deal is for one year but the financial details are not yet available.
Eaves fit in very well alongside Kris Draper and Darren Helm but could see time with different linemates this upcoming season.

I wouldn’t mind seeing him on a line with Hudler and Filpulla from time to time. Wouldn’t be a permanent line (I think it would grow too stale, too quick to be efficient for the Wings), but as a jump start line when we are playing crappy? I think it would do wonders.
Miller would work as well. He and Eaves work their asses off on every play. Along with two players that can make plays and hit the back of the net consistently, they could be effective for short periods of time.

Good stuff, now...
We just have to get Helm inked and we’ll be well on our way to a decent looking team this year(like every year?)
Can’t deny Helmer’s speed, smarts and potential. Not to mention that lil’ defensive expo he put on in the playoffs. Welcome back Eaves!!

The team you just backstopped for the better part of a decade, were a franchise player for, and made the most successful regular season team during that period dumped you. I honestly think I would give up, too.

Another kind of off-topic, but
TSN is reporting that Lebda was signed by the Leafs to a two-year deal for about $1.65 million per year (I think). No great loss in my book. Leafs must be desperate.
