Griffins release 2010-2011 schedule
The Grand Rapids Griffins released its full schedule yesterday, with the season beginning at home at Van Andel Arena on Friday October 8th against the Abbotsford Heat. The Griffins close out the regular season's home games on April 8, also against Abbotsford.
Grand Rapids plays 32 of their 40 home games on the weekend (17 Friday, 9 Saturday, 6 Sunday) and the remaining eight games are all on Wednesdays. They play host to the Lake Erie Monsters, Peoria Rivermen, and Milwaukee Admirals four times each this season, the most of any of the AHL teams.

Also of note, the Griffins will be switching their radio broadcasts from Newsradio WOOD 1300AM to ESPN 96.1FM.

I voted yes, but with a caveat: they will all be here in Chicago. My in-laws have season tickets to the Wolves, and while I support them (they are the Thrashers’ farm team) 95% of the time, when the Griffins come to town I can’t help but be drawn to them and cheer (quietly) for the visitors.
However, much like in the NHL, the Chicago-Detroit (via Grand Rapids) rivalry lives on. They are usually good games, and on the weekends there’s a number of Griffins’ fans that make the trek down for the games.

I'm with you
I’m hoping to attend at least a couple of Griffins’ games, but they will be here in Cleveland, the home of the Lake Erie Monsters (farm team of the hated Avalanche). There are usually quite a few Griffins fans in attendance here as well. Not that long of drive from GR or Detroit.
Yikes
At least my local team is the fam system for a team I have no emotional attachment to one way of the other – although if they keep signing former Blackhawk players I might have to take a second look at that.
We’ve had Lake Erie come through here. I particularly enjoy cheering against them because they are rivals for the Wolves and the farm team for the Avs.

Friday Nights
are a great time at Van Andel. $10 student tickets, and $1 beers and hot dogs.
I’m sure I’ll be attending many a Griffins game this year. They’re always good hockey, and after a few beers and the griffs having almost the exact same jersies, you just feel like you’re watching the wings, and wonder why there’s a number 9 out there
As The Murph
would say to $1 beers and hot dogs “YEAAAAAAAAAH!”
