Yzerman Connection
If I was Kenny or I could get into his head, we have an old friend in Tampa Bay. I would partner up with Steve, he may want say a Maltby or a Meech or maybe a Draper if these boys want to carry on. Steve could use the winning experience, hey even a draft choice is better than losing a guy with promise on waivers. And Tampa Bay is in the East so, not much of a gamble. In fact Tampa Bay may have something the Wings may be interested in for the farm. Hey, just imagine a Red Wing – Lightening final, that’s my want…. because Steve will always be in our hearts… I’m pulling for his team, except when they play the Wings but our guys had better be ready or the snickers will come from the TB exec. box

Yzerman won’t make any deal with the Wings. Period. No way he does anything to harm himself or his new team’s reputation. I respect it and I am totally ok with it.
And besides, he’s making some nice changes down there already.
I agree with you,
at least for the first couple of years. I think Steve will want to establish himself as a credible GM without it looking like he either got help from Wings or is helping them. Maybe 3 or 4 years down he road, after he is established in TB (and not back with the Wings yet), he might feel more comfortable doing deals.
This is just as dumb as the comment you made in a previous thread
Probably because it’s just copied and pasted, but I digress.
The fact is that Holland won’t deal Draper or Maltby. Period. Those two have earned their keep with this team. They will retire as Wings, and then they will move into the front office or stay with the team in another role. Hell, Maltby will drive the f**king zamboni before he’s traded anywhere, even Hockeytown South.
That last statement is quite accurate. Maltby will retire a Wing. He may only play sparingly this season, but I don’t see him going anywhere else. Same goes for Draper and Ozzy. Those three have been part of this franchise for so long and the fans love them. They aren’t going anywhere and will retire as Wings. Hell, at least one of them will see their jersey rise to the rafters of the Joe (or Spirit Arena, my codename for the next stadium), and rightly so.

I don't know about the rafters for Draper and Maltby
It’s entirely possible, but I don’t see them as being in the same class of guys that are currently up there. No disrespect to them, but if we retire the jersey for every Maltby and Draper that plays for this team, we’ll be out of numbers in another 30-50 years.
Don’t get me wrong, I won’t complain whatsoever if 18 and 33 hit the rafters when those two hang them up. I just don’t know if they’re on the same level as guys like Osgood, Homer, and TPH.

Damnit. I meant to reply to this comment. Ozzy was the one I was referring to getting his number retired. Draper and Maltby won’t have it happen.
If anything, I would like to see them raise a banner with a list of players whose dedication to the Wings was unquestionable and played their hearts out for years with us. Something a little more permanent to honor the Drapers and Maltbys and Holmstroms. Maybe add two names a year to the banner, or something. I’d also suggest having team personnel on there as well. People like Bowman and Sobotka. Maybe even a more visible way to honor Konstatinov and Fischer.

Can't friggin' wait...
For this season to begin… being a Red Wing/Lightning fan that lives in the Tampa area… this is sure shaping up to be one helluva season. As usual for the Wings and for the first time.. in a long time for the Bolts.
Red Wings will be down here Feb. 17th and I will be there with bells on. Especially since they didn’t make it down here last season, argh!! Which is a big hit due to the fact their’s usually waaaay more Red in the crowd, than Black or Blue.. when the Wings are in town.
I’m also glad I have a relevant reason to wear my Wings jersey even when they’re not playing them, again. (not since Dino’s days?) Can’t wait to see the fruits of Yzerman’s labor in action …even if not completely ripe yet.
GO WINGS/BOLTS!!!!!!
STAND TALL, FLY STRAIGHT, USA ALL THE WAY!
